Spilled paint on my seat! Help!

I bought some replacement paint for my Voodoo Blue FJ Cruiser and it spilled onto the passenger side seat and dried. Tried soap and water to no avail. Does anyone know how I can remove it without damaging the seat? Thank you.

Re: Spilled paint on my seat! Help!

I'd go to a local body shop and ask them-I'm sure they would have experiance. Oh, and always do a test site that is not easily visable. Tim

Ya think some Acetone would discolor the seat cover?

Re: Spilled paint on my seat! Help!

If the paint has already dried, the seat is "toast."

Acetone "might" work, but will probably just make it worse. Best suggestion I have is to buy a pair of Okole seat covers straight from the shop (or as soon as the next group buy gets going).

Re: Spilled paint on my seat! Help!

Before doing anything, try scraping some of it off with a sharp knife, just try and scrape the paint get as much off as possible to try and reduce the amount of bleeding from the acetone, but like Tim suggested try it in an area that you can't notice first.

I would recommend going to a local body shop and asking them. I think I would try alcohol over acetone though. But they should have a better Idea.

Could it be 'Goof Off'? That stuff takes off just about anything. I think the body shop idea is a good one. You can bet they've had to remove some dried paint.

Re: Spilled paint on my seat! Help!

I used to sell auto paint. We sold a product by 3m called paint buster part # 5975 it is in a big toothpase tube. It is mainly used for washing hands but I had luck using it on clothing a few times. Find a auto paint supply store and get some. Should be less than $8. Rub it in then take a wet towel and remove and repeat as necessary. Hope it works 4 you.

Re: Spilled paint on my seat! Help!

I work with paint daily and trying to get it out of peoples clothes. The best thing that works for me is actually scraping and/or cutting it out then with a paint pen, paint it black to match the seat. Its a lot of work if its a lot of paint. I could be removed with soap and water if it never dried. Accetone will weaken the bonds but not remove it and if the seat is dyed then it will fade the fabric.
