Side Visor Install

HAS ANYONE INSTALLED A PAIR OF SIDE VISORS YET?
I just purchased mine from the dealer and asked if they had installed them before but, they had not. So my question is are there holes behind the headliner to accomodate the hook like pieces on the side that mounts against the headliner under the grab handles?

Re: Side Visor Install

No, there aren't any holes behind. Now there are several threads on this topic, but here's my thoughts rather than "do a search".

I installed these on my '07, love them! I used an awl to poke holes in the headliner where the little hooks go. I just aligned the mount holes and pushed a bit to make indentations for where the holes should be for the hooks. Others have just snipped the hooks off and say that works too. 10 minutes to do the install.

I snipped off the hooks. Works great! Best $25 per side I ever spent on the FJ!!!

Re: Side Visor Install

I just got my set in the mail.

How do you take the caps off the grab handles without damaging it? A flat head screw driver will gauge it.

Simply place a pocket knife in the short seam - not the long side seams - and nudge the insert out. If you are careful, it will leave no marks.

Re: Side Visor Install

IMO cut the clips off and don't poke holes in the headliner! The clips do not add anything.
