Just installed an HID light kit on the drivers side mirror, passenger to come tomorrow. Not a super functional modification considering the cost of the kit but it sure beats the heck out of those wimpy little lights that come stock, check it out! Stock vs. HID

I have the lights switched independent of the headlights, they are way too high up and bright to drive on the street, thanks for the heads up though. I got the kit on ebay, had to do a little modification to make it work, its a 9005, 8000k kit.

By the way, with brighter mirror lights, at night if you want to open your hood, rotate the mirror towards the open engine bay and boom, you have a lighted engine bay (the stockers don't do enough to light it.)

Also - try this:
Get in someone else's car, then have THEM drive your FJ with these on towards you. Are you blinded? Likely you are. Try it as well with your FJ behind you, with these shining in the rear view...
Aftermarket HIDs are actually illegal in some states, due to improper lighting cut-off patterns - HID can dazzle oncoming cars very easily, especially in rain or snow. With these being up so high, I think the risk is even greater. Plus, you have that melting issue as well - I've heard of even proper fog lamp housings eventually succumbing to the heat of HID - be careful.
