Thats what I did for the first 10 months since I had no clue about using relays. Finally when I got more lights, I did some searching and now have everything wired with relays.
Using a relay allows you to run smaller gauge wire to the switch inside the cabin. Basically how I understood it, the relay is a switch that is triggered by another switch usually inside the cabin.
