Window tinting

I got a price of $80(said he'll need to dissasemble the door panels to do them) for a tint shop to do just the 2 door windows. I've used this guy before & he's very good. I'll do the rest of the windows myself. Question is, I came across the pre-cut tint set on Ebay, Has anyone used this kind of kit before? & are they any good?

Re: Window tinting

The precuts are not bad.. if you have a lot of time, a steady hand, and are willing to work slowly and carefully. otherwise you get that weird bubbly look all over. to be honest (ive done both) the shop for $80 isnt bad at all, to me itd be more worth my time to pay them. just my $.02

Re: Window tinting

I ordered and did the ebay style precut ones. Mine was 24 bucks for just the two side windows.

I didn't disassemble anything and this was my first time tinting. I have about 3 air bubbles on one side about the size of the top of a pin. Really small and almost unnoticable. I thought it was pretty easy but stressfull to make sure it didnt bend. It would of been a bit easier with a second person just to hold the tint.

It took about 30 minutes from start to finish. I would totally recommend this way for a do it yourself. My rig is on my build up below with pics.

Re: Window tinting

I paid $99. to get the two front windows and a 5-6" wide strip across the top of the windshield. Looks great, no bubbles. I'm satisfied.

Re: Window tinting

Also paid $100 for front windows tinted 35% plus a 50% strip across the top of the windshield. Had it done at Music City Window Tinting in Brentwood. Super job and only took about half an hour.

Re: Window tinting

I paid $50 for the front two windows tinted to 20%. 3 year warranty against fading, and lifetime warranty against cracking, peeling, and bubbling.

some shops remove door panels to put the tint film much lower than the window (visible area)
others just tuck the film under the windows rubber which in time will rub and lift the film.

how much time we talking....? I have had two different vehicles with tint done with it tucked below window trim and gaskets on movable windows....last vehicle had it on from 1994 until I sold her in 2006. Never a lift or problem on any of the windows. It was a Jeep Cherokee four door. I believe it has to do with the level of quality of the film and the glue it uses on film....that is why some film will bubble and lift around rear window defrosts and some require it to be fine lined.

I was just asking...as in 25 years never had one bubble or lift where it goes under window gasket.
