WoW! They are proud of that product arent they?

We are proud of the FJCruiser Security Console but that doesn't mean we are trying to gouge anyone on price. The console is constructed of 16 gauge steel, welded, powder coated and covered with a marine vinyl armrest. The lock and latch use top of the line components to provide reliable security and a lifetime of smooth operation. We make everything here in the USA and support all kinds of land use and off road organizations as well as other charitable organizations. We may be able to made the stuff made cheaper in Taiwan but we choose to not offer our customers an inferior product.

After years of doing this, I have found that whether you price the same console at $25 or $250 there will always be those who think it is too much and those that would pay double what we are asking. All we can do is produce a quality product and try to price it fairly enough to sell some and still make it worthwhile.

Don't take this as a personal rant against your post, you just gave me the opportunity to vent against ever increasing raw material costs and the never ending complaints that things cost too much

I can't imagine this is the case. It doesn't even come close to a conflict with the drivers armrest. I think that's just bad info.

As to Tuffy's post, and as I said in my original, it is really well made and the material is heavy duty. The lock mechanism does appear to be top notch, and I thought it was a fair price. It was also well packaged and delivered quickly.

It works with the driver's armrest just fine. If you have a passenger armrest, you'll have to remove it and your passenger will have to use the cushioned top of the locking console. As the driver, I prefer the cushy (and less itchy) lock-box-top too.

Re: Tuffy locking console!!

As far as the price of this console goes, I'd like to point out that Toyota charges $109 for a freaking armrest which is made with, I'm guessing, less than $5.00 worth of materials.

The Tuffy console is MUCH better as an armrest -- nice and cushy, large. I keep the driver's side armrest up now and fight over the Tuffy rest with my passenger.

So the remaining $77 after subtracting the price of a Toyota armrest gets you a fairly secure storage area, 100 times more secure than anything I've ever seen OEM. I'm actually glad Toyota just left a gaping hole where a storage box should be.

Re: Tuffy locking console!!

it works with drivers armrest...it is tight in my FJ but that is because I keep my seat setting on the floor as low as it will go...bottom of armrest does sit on box tray some if I try to lift it....one or two pumps up on chair and she clears just fine so you shorter guys wont have that issue I keep a pen for writing my mileage on gas receipts in the tray...a folding swiss army knife...a couple golf tees...and a buckeye I have had for 15 years.

as for my Sig....last trip she was in her holster...sitting inside my beanie i wear on motorcycle for some cushion. we have a gun show here at end of month and going to look for a used or cheap Fobus or other holster to mount permanently on back side of console ...low...on plastic part. it wont be visible from outside...still accessible by my strong arm and close to console if I am leaving it in vehicle unattended rather than carrying it with me concealed. I thought about getting an industrial magnet and using epoxy to mount to the FOBUS and then I could put it on back of Tuffy or even on inside of Tuffy if I wanted.....more flexible....still might check into that as well.

The Tuffy is offcenter and the large pad is easily used by passenger....I tend to use my armrest while driving around and stuff but on long trips or if lounging I will put arm on cushion and let hand rest on shift knob. I love the damn thing... LOL

It is well worth the money for durability, functionality, and piece of mind security. Plus with the gasket it is weather resistant to dust and moisture...plus the lock will not be twisted off with channel locks like some cheap imitations. Just do yourself a favor and not only use the two console screws but drill the hole and mount it using the big bolt. It takes less than 5 minutes and is worth a lifetime of not worrying.

If I get my holster mounted I will post a pic...I think Corey did something similiar but cant find his thread now.

Re: Tuffy locking console!!

I haven't done the big bolt yet but I have to take it back out to paint this weekend anyway, I'll motivate to put it back securely when it goes back in.

I dig the idea with the magnets! Where do you get really strong magnets?? I can't imagine why that wouldn't work.

PLUS, if you applied a strong magnet or two to a Fobus holster, you could then mount it on the back of the Tuffy box while you're driving for very quick and easy access. Then what a simple matter to just put the holster on the inside of the box and lock it when you exit the car.

Am I missing something? I think that's perfect.

reason being is that in the event of a traffic stop...a locked glovebox (etc...) is off limits to a search by the cops w/out a warrent.
Not that I planned on it, but good to know I shouldn't carry anything illegal in my "unlockable" glove box.

I am assuming that console is a "NO GO" for possibly..... dog toenails.....and monster sized dog toe nails at that rate?

Not that I let him ride there (just in case you are reading this hunny) but in the "accidental event" that his toenails somehow make it to the top of this?

I've had my console since Christmas and I'm very happy with it. I also have a Black Lab co-pilot who rides in the passenger seat. Although I try to discourage her from standing on the console's padded top, she does it often and it has no signs of damage/tears. It'd also be easy enough to re-upholster if something did happen.
