Interior / Exterior Visual TechThis section contains discussion related to visual modifications of the Toyota FJ Cruiser. Some items might include dash kits, roof rack modifications and other visual modifications.
I am interested in this as well, Doc. I have been wanting something that would prevent gear from flying forward while traveling. Our dogs normally will stay with the MIL if we are gone for very long but my youngest Border Collie is probably going to get to go on our camping excursions this fall. The older ones won't like it as much anymore.

We will evaluate the prototype first to see if there are any changes need or if anyone has good ideas to add....hopefully we will have one for the FJ Summit...but that is cutting it pretty close for fabrication time.
When we have locked down a design...I will run a pre-order to see if we have enough members interested to do a production run...as usual we will need about 35-50 members voice a serious interest.
There will be lots of pics, so you will know exactly what you are getting
I was thinking about Uphill's cage, but I really like this idea, Doc! Would it be easy to mount something like the back door grid on? Or maybe a grid on the two sides--keeping the middle open for rear view purposes. I probably would use it primarily for keeping the stuff in the back exactly there--in the back. The secondary use would be to mount stuff up on it like Uphill is doing. Would it be strong enough to mount an MPAC rack on? Loaded with gear?
Thanks! Mucho interested!

I love that! That is awesome. I too have 3 family members that are 4 legged and travel on many adventures with us in the FJ. Right now what we have is the cheap POS that you can get from Petsmart/Petco for like $20. I hate it because it's a PITA to get in and out, and also since it stays in by force, there are imprints in my headliner.

I think that Uphills Scorpion Rack would be a much better product for storage and hanging stuff on. While the Springtail Dog/Cargo barrier will be sturdy, it certainly is not a match for what he is proposing. His rack will have forward and cargo area mounting for items and optional MPAC gear while ours will probably not have forward mounting capability. you probably could mount a rear door MPAC rack on our barrier...but I would recommend quikfists so you can maintain some rear visiblity.
I think that we are looking at 2 different audiences.
Springtail= Light/medium duty, easy removal...maybe hang a couple of items on some quickfists.
Scorpion Rack= Heavy Duty, still easily removable...did I say heavy duty? mount what ever you please without reservations
I think there is a market for both products...think F150 vs Kenworth
