My kayak hauling solution

As an avid kayak fisherman, I searched & read everything I could find on adapting my new FJ to haul kayaks.
I wound up incorporating several ideas and the end result is all I hoped it would be.

I began by removing the top half of the factory rack. A good post describing the process can be found HERE. My thanks to the original poster.
After reattaching the bottom half of the rack, I mounted my rear 58" Yakima bar with a set of Yakima Lowriders that I found in this forum's classifieds.


For the front, I ordered a set of adapters from Stornco. These were the perfect solution to allow the mounting of a set of Yakima control towers and my front 58" cross bar.

A 44" fairing was added to the front bar, and a set of Yakima Mako saddles completed the installation.

My Wilderness Systems kayaks are around 28" wide & this setup allows two to be carried side by side.
