Blacking out side mirrors

Hi all! I'm sure this has been posted some where on the forums before but I couldn't find it, so I did mine yesterday and here is a step by step. Hope this will help someone out soon. I didn't like the Flat Black look so I went with Satin Black, blends better with the black plastic on the FJ(I think).

Before.

Remove plastic clip with a screwdriver or something with a point.

Next Remove two screws(one behind door handle and one behind door grab).

Next start at the bottom of the door and pull off the door panel. Then work your way to the top. Push up on the door panel and pull away from door. You will now need to disconnect the two cables that go to the lock and door handle. Then unplug the electric plug that makes your window and door locks function(one on the drivers side and two on the passenger side).

Re: Blacking out side mirrors

Here's the rest.

Now you should have the door panel removed. Next remove the four 10mm bolts on the upper black metal plate.

Behind the black metal plate are three 10mm bolts that hold your mirror and the electric plug for your mirror lights. Remove the plug and the three bolts. The mirror has a plastic clip that will hold the mirror in place while you remove the bolts. Next pull some what hard on the mirror and it will come off.

Plastic hook that will hold the mirror.

Now sand and paint then replace.

Hope this helps!

Great write-up and pics. This is why this forum is tops. People helping people. Looks great. I'm thinking on doing the mirrors to. Already blacked out the bezel and back bumper pieces.

Re: Blacking out side mirrors

Thanks everyone! I just finished blacking out my rear bumper today. I might try to post that also, it was very easy. Thanks again for all the nice comments.

Re: Blacking out side mirrors

It does look good! Personally I used Dragon's method and masked everything off and them painted without any removal. I'm lazy I guess but it turned out good too......
