YASB - Yet Another Storage Box.

I started building a storage box for the back of the FJ.

I wanted to leave access to the jack, so they box is a bit of an odd design. It has 2 drawers that are 12.75" x22.75", a 13" x 7" box with a flip top lid and a open area so that the jack compartment can still be opened.

I'm planning to put a 80Ah SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) Battery in the the small compartment. I'll connect to secondary battery to the primary charging system via a 12v 200amp contactor under the hood. I'll then be able to have an isolated 12 volt supply in the back of the FJ to run 12volt stuff or an external inverter for 120volt devices.

I drew up some plans in Google Sketch-Up:

I started working on it last night, but didn't get very far. I thought I had more MDF laying around, but I only found one piece and part of a sheet of plywood. I'll make a run to Home Depot tonight and hopefully have some more progress by next week.

Once I get it build I'll publish my cut list for all of the parts. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to finish the box, but I have a sheet of FRP that might look nice, I'm just not sure that I want the box to be white. Anyone know where I could buy a sheet of Black FRP?

Re: YAST - Yet Another Storage Box.

Don't forget that if you ever need access to the items in the drawers and your rear hatch is up against a tree and unable to be opened, that access through the top of the box is crucial.

Re: YAST - Yet Another Storage Box.

you could close the space in by the jack and put a smaller drawer that is removable and add a hinge to the top so you remove drawer and flip the lid back to access the jack. Nice design.
