Re: I'm contemplating the BajaRack. Please gimme your pics & opinions.

The rack looks real nice, but I do have a problem. The wind deflector is dented a bit, on the lower corner, passenger side. I honestly wouldn't really care, because I like the look enough and it doesn't need to be perfect. It is going to take some dents in the future. The only reason I care at all, is because there two small cracks in the paint, as a result. That means it WILL rust, if not corrected. I haven't contacted the company yet, as we did the project on a late Friday night.

The dent doesn't show up well in the pic, but the paint cracks did. 10 mods ago, I traded my money pit of a mud truck, for an FJ. I swore I wasn't going to put anything into it. I can already see new wheels, and a suspension to hold the oversize tires, a pneumatic light rack, etc...

So much for that idea.

Give us a call and we'll take care of it. I'm sure it was the "gentle" way it was handled by UPS. Cris

I don't understand why you guys all use UPS. They suck. I can't tell you how many packages they have damaged, lost, or the major PITA that you have to be there to sigh for the package....."Oh, we'll be there sometime between 8am and 7pm. Yeah, like I'm going to sit home all day waiting for a package that has been thrown and stepped on by a bunch of overworked, tired kids. Anymore, I just tell UPS to keep the damn package at the regional distribution center so I can just drive there my damn self and pick it up. That way you can open it right in front of the shippers and check for damage right away. USPS is soooooooooooo much better to deal with.

I like UPS. If the shipper would just not request signature, you wouldn't have to be home. Also, if you just sign the little ticket, they'll leave it the next time they deliver.

hopefully you did not forget to put some silicone on each bolt before putting into roof JUST IN CASE to make sure no plastic inserts were damaged and will let water into mount holes. It is good insurance even if you have to remove the bolts and do them over....

Re: I'm contemplating the BajaRack. Please gimme your pics & opinions.

I did apply silicone sealant during the install. But, good advice nonetheless. My first post is in the prior page, with after pics. I had to do a second post to squeeze 6 pics in. On the first post, I laid out the steps and how quickly it went up. I mentioned applying silicone, while my friend was busy unpacking. We both stayed busy and it went up real quick.

As far as UPS, I have had pretty good experiences with them. I was also told by the gal at dispatch, that you can leave a note for the driver, telling him to leave the package, if nobody is there to sign. You just have to leave your signature on the note. Of course, that is provided you are comfortable with that. You could leave a gateway box on my porch for days, and I bet it would stay there.

Re: I'm contemplating the BajaRack. Please gimme your pics & opinions.

No offense to the manufacturers of this excellent roof rack, but following my own tradition of a badge-less, sticker-less, decal-less truck, I removed the BajaRack logo and repainted the air dam with satin black to better match my other blacked-out exterior accessories.

Also, bandi made this observation about the BajaRack in my "build" thread:

Steve, Your rig looks great. Love the police spotlights. Any info you can give us on those? Do you think the passenger side one would work with a snorkle, can they mount on the roof, do they get in the way inside and/or interfear with the grab handles and blindspot factor? Any particular "best" brand?

Nope, if you have the ARB snorkel, you won't be able to install the passenger side spotlight.

Otherwise, here's all the info you should need . . . .

SPOTLIGHT (Post-Mounted): Installation w/ pics
