I need a rip off small garbage sack on the drivers side, with an elastic neck top, so it stays closed, but easy to put stuff in it, and kind of stretchy so you can fill it a bit. Then on the passengers, something for a handheld GPS(SPOT pouch?). Got anything that might work for the garbage sack? Getting tired using one of my cup holders.
i have to say you make some of the best add ons i have ever seen...... i will be buying the side rack real soon i will email you with some questions. once again thanks for the great products.
Jim

I like you Idea, But a couple of things I can see that may prevent some people from using it...
1, I have my CB mounted on the drivers side where your rack is, and as such I'm no longer able to move my seat all the way forward. Your rack seems to stick out just enough to prevent the seat moving. This will make it hard to get kids and large people in the back if you block both sides.
2, drilling mount holes in the plastic may not be for everyone. I would suggest putting a Velcro strip across the top and them putting rubber 'feet' on the sides to prevent vibration. Then you could, like others have said, bend the mounts inwards and have them accessible through one of the holes on the front for them who wish to screw it on.
Just my thought, sorry if I have covered what others already have said, don't have time to read the whole thread just now. good idea though.

Good questions/Comments:

The rack itself will not prevent the seats from going forward. However, if you have a bag on the rack...that will impede the seat from going past that point. Since the FJ does not have a tip forward feature...where you set the seat is where it is going to stay. We have a five year old with a car seat in the back...so far this does not seem to be an issue.

The Straddle will be supplied with velcro which can be used for securing the item to the console or simply as a pad to help prevent scratching. After spending some time with the prototype, I have a feeling that some people may want to mount the bags before installing the Straddle on the console. The forward tab is pretty accessable with the bags on but the rearward tab may be better suited in the outward position. An installed bag may block that access point. The alternative: If we use hardware that you can screw on from the outside...installation would be a snap.
The Straddle actually fits pretty snug so vibration is not an issue. IMO, the only people who will have to screw the mount on are those who may be tugging on it to get something out (IE: CCW)
