New! MPAC Straddle Prototype

Well, we have finally focused our attention on the front of the FJ. This is the first of several potential products that we have been working on. We still have some fitting work to do but IMO it is looking pretty nice. The final unit will be powdercoated black. We don't have a price yet but I anticipate a price around $70-75.00 for the rack alone.

Once I have a working model in my hands, I will showcase some potential pouches than we may stock as well. Right now...you just get to see the rack.

It will have the option of a velcro application or being fixed to the center console with screws/bolts. We anticipate that it will be a perfect spot for GPS units, IPODs, SPOT units etc. We will just have to what works out

I will be also working on an adaptor to mount a Blackhawk CQC Kydex style holster for those of us who carry and would like an accessable point for a pistol or magazines.

7/5/09 Updated photos of the latest prototype, painted in grey for photographic purposes.

As always, I would like to hear your comments

Update: July 21st 2009

Here is the hard mounting that we figured out for the straddle. We found a collapsing Jack nut that works perfectly for providing a hard mount for the FJ Straddle. Installation is just around 1 hour.

After the initial installation, the Straddle can be taken off using only an allen wrench in a matter of a couple of minutes. We will also supply velcro for padding and for those who do not desire the "hard Mount" option.

I have ordered the racks today and will start a presale later this week. Keep an eye out in the group buy section. We will be doing a combo deal initailly with one "map" style pouch and a small i-pouch. Cost for the combo will be $94.00 plus shipping ($117.00 value). OR The straddle can be purchased alone for $79.50.

Anticipated delivery is roughly mid-september

Keep in mind this is only for Automatic Transmission models. The M6 will follow soon.

Re: New! MPAC Straddle Prototype

I like it, but it would block the CB radio hookups on the passenger side of my console that I installed last night.

While I wouldn'g be storing much of anything on the driver's side, I would like to see what y'all come up with for a holster mount. I could move my hookups, since the rack would cover the holes I made. For me, it would depend a great deal on what sort of accessories y'all come up with to go with it.

Looks good!

Also, have ya'll looked at a MPAC rack that could bolt in over the flat, vertical dash panel in front of the passenger?

Re: New! MPAC Straddle Prototype

Pretty cool! Some sort of pistol pouch/holster would be perfect there.

Re: New! MPAC Straddle Prototype

I think if you sprayed it black and then posted another pic, I'd like it a bit more
But I see it is for AT only .. Oh well.

Oh, one thing I see that could be done better, is make the mounting tabs on the left and right side go in and not out. You have plenty of access holes for placing a screw in it.

Re: New! MPAC Straddle Prototype

You should bend the mouting tab in so you screw through a mount hole and thus the tab is hidden...

Re: New! MPAC Straddle Prototype

I think you have another winner there Doc.

Good idea.

I've got my Life Hammer attached (just with velcro) right now on my drivers side, and this would really secure it nicely.

If you take a seat in the FJ, there is actually a fair amount of room on the drivers side to store stuff. Keep in mind this is not for big bulky bags but more for smaller radio pouches, sunglasses and Ipods etc.

We are building some prototypes of racks to cover the silver vertical area on each side. If there are enough people interested, I would be willing to do a small run of racks over the dash panel (as usual, would need 35-40 participants to do so).

Something that we did not consider. Take a picture of the M6 Console so I can see the differences. I am sure that it would be easy enough to make a model for the M6
