Question Anybody else relocate their driver seat mount??

I'm about to embark upon a slight modification to add a few more inches of leg room to the existing location of the stock driver's seat.

I was curious if anyone else has moved their driver's seat back further, either by moving the entire seat mount or modifying the slide brackets to permit another couple of inches rearward.

(I no longer have back seats, so intruding upon the comfort of rear passengers is not an issue.)

Anyway, rather than "reinventing the wheel," I wondered if someone else has already created a workable fix/mod.

Steve,
I will subscribe to your thread. I am 6'4" and would love an inch or two more of legroom!

Me, too.

Yeah, somehow I'll figure it out myself, but hopefully someone else will save me all the creative juices.

Re: Anybody else relocate their driver seat mount??

I saw some milled aluminum blocks a couple years back affixed to a Scion xB's track mounts, but have never found a source. It was a very neat solution to raise and move the tracks rearward.

Steve, having seen your previous work, I think others will be waiting to see what you come up with.

Yo Steve'O,
Don't listen to Bob. I've seen him and he's not 6'4". He's more like 5' 11¾". <snicker>

Re: Anybody else relocate their driver seat mount??

Weird....6'5" and I don't even have the seat all the way back or down.

An idea would be to mount the factory seat to rail of sorts(1" square tube maybe?) with some mounting holes drilled into it. Then you could bolt these rails in(and further back) the stock mounting locations. This should give you enough varitions to find the postion that you want and it would save you form having to using plates, washers, drilling through your floor etc while retaining your factory adjustments.

Oh and paint them flat black, that way they are not so noticable.

That's exactly what I did on a Jeep Cherokee I previously owned, right down to the 1" square tubing. (I guess us trumpet players must think alike. )

Hopefully that recipe will work on the FJ seat. Even if the 1" tubing raises the seat up a tad, that will be perfect since I've got my drivers seat cranked all the way up anyway.

The only concern I have are the forward mounting holes where they fold down onto an angled riser/pedestal.

Well, I'm gonna pull the seat this weekend and see what it's all about . . . .
