Windshield Tick noise - Suggestions?

Hey all!

I bought my '07 FJ, Certified from Toyota back in August, and recently, I noticed a ticking noise coming from the bottom, driver's side of the ws, driving on bumpy streets at slow speeds. Looks like the windshield is a PPG replacement when I bought the FJ

Luckily, I have a 5 year windshield repair and replacement warranty that covers me completely for repairs and replacements for chips, divets and cracks (but not ticking noises - Damn!). Unfortunately, since the windshield is non OEM, the dealership I spoke with said the TSB issued in July doesn't apply (http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Toyota/12...8R2/14281.html ) and they won't touch it as a warranty item.

And, the warranty company won't touch it (yet) since there's no actual damage to the windshield.

Part of me thinks that a Colorado Winter will give me a broken windshield by spring, and the problem goes away when I replace it.

I'll most likely stop by an auto glass repair shop and get an estimate for re-setting the windshield if it's possiblle.

So, short of turning up the iPod or throwing a rock through the ws, does anyone have other suggestions on how to mitigate the ticking noise myself? while I wait for a crack to appear?

Thanks..

Re: Windshield Tick noise - Suggestions?

Interesting...I have a similar issue. I had my windshield replaced with a PPG one also. I noticed it happens in a certain speed range, somewhere between 45-60mph. I probably need to pay a little more attention.

Anyway, I'll be interested in hearing whether anyone else has experienced this and may have a solution.

Re: Windshield Tick noise - Suggestions?

Its not the windshield its. I think there is a TSB for the clips that holds windshield or molding. I will be able to look up TSB tomorrow at work. The Certified warranty should take care of it. Let me find the TSB and then you could call and see if it is covered.

Check my original post. I included a link to the latest TSB for this problem. Unfortunately, the dealer refused this as part of the certified warranty because the windshield is non-OEM, even though that's how I bought it from them.

I suggest closely following a dump truck.....windshield damage is sure to come sooner or later. It's the spacers at the top and/or bottom of the windshield that are causing your noise.
