FJ in Costa Rica

So I want to move down to Costa Rica and obviously take the FJ with me (how much fun would it be to be able to go wheelin in the rainforest everyday???). The only problem is that my research is stating that you need to be careful with importing vehicles to CR. Apparently, if they don't sell your vehicle down there finding parts for repairs is very difficult. The country has a lot of older FJ40's and Land Cruisers, but does anyone know how difficult it is to special order Toyota parts in another county? And doesn't the FJ share a lot of parts with more popular/older Toyotas?

Re: FJ in Costa Rica

The FJC is quite new and does not share a whole lot of parts with older Land Cruisers. You can bring in spares from the US if you really want to import your FJC to Costa Rica but have you looked into the importation duties? For a vehicle less than 3 yrs old, the duty fees are 59.33% of the appraised value of the vehicle.

Re: FJ in Costa Rica

I would also add that there are a lot of really cool Toyotas in Costa Rica that you can't get here.

Re: FJ in Costa Rica

I have seen the HUGE import duties, but am hoping to find a way around that. What are the really cool toyotas that you can find down there that arent available in the states?
