Post Checking out FJs

Greetings! I'm considering an FJ (VooDoo Blue w/16" TRD wheels, roof rack). Have searched around the forum and gained a lot of valuable insight, just a couple of questions. I currently own a small/med 4 dr truck and don't know how bad I'll miss having a truck bed. Anyone gone through a similar transition? I don't need to haul anything serious, but the trips for mulch, building supplies for projects around the house, a power washer, aerator, etc, are all needed on occasion. Can you haul a few 2x4s with the back window open? How about hunting stuff? (bows, treestands, etc). I've read mixed opinions about driving with the windows down (door). I like having the windows down, but don't want to get pounded by the airflow. How about parking garages? Does it fit in most in stock configuration (w/roof rack)? Lastly, how about road trips? Is it pretty comfortable on 5-6 hours trips on the interstate? Wind noise, seat comfort, etc. Thanks.

Re: Checking out FJs

I sold a Dodge Dakota for my FJ. I would recommend getting a small utility trailer if you want to haul stuff. You will use the trailer a lot and it’s very convenient. I have a 16ft trailer that I use for my car and quick trips to Home Depot or….I always used the trailer even when I had a truck.

Put some sort of deflector on there and you are good to go.

I have not had a problem yet.

The wind noise is very low. I am 6ft 2in and and find it comfortable. It all dependes on what you are used to driving.

Re: Checking out FJs

Only had a parking garage issue once. If you leave the stock antenae on it's taller than the rack and will hit first.

Re: Checking out FJs

Thanks! The trailer is certainly an option I could look into. I use the antenna on my truck now. It would be close with an FJ, but I could look into other places to park. Northern Virginia/DC parking garages can be a pain.

The FJ won't replace your truck. If you open the back window you gonna eat a lot of dust if your on a back road. Road trips are excelent, it's very comfortable. Wind noise.. yes. Open the back window and the wind noise is gone.

Get one.

Re: Checking out FJs

I've got a dually pickup, however, it's up for sale. When it goes I'll simply get a 5 x 8 utility trailer.
