Hi everyone. Im new here and just wanted to make an introduction.
My name is Curtis and I live in Fort Stockton, TX (Desert in the middle of nowhere).
Well I bought my FJ on Halloween. It's 4x4 6 speed manual voodoo blue. I fell in love with the car the first time I saw one last summer. I've always been an offroad fan and when I saw an FJ I knew it had something special to it. My previous offroad rig was a 1990 Isuzu Amigo. Anyone remember those? yeah well it broke down after a 16 year run so I was in dire need of a new offroad vehicle. I haven't had a chance to take my FJ through anything that has given it much of a challenge yet but I have got it dirty. I took it through a mud road that was about 4 foot deep with water across 60 % of the stretch and got through there with relative ease on stock tires. I've also took it rock crawling a little bit but not much since its hard to find good rock crawling land where I live. I do, however, live near the Monahans sandhills which I plan on taking it there pretty soon.
Has anyone here took there FJ to Big Bend National Park? Im planning to go there for spring break (I work for the school district so I get student holidays) The family and I are planning to go camping and take the FJ on a few Offroad trails while we are there. Particularly, Black Gap Road. Im not familiar with it but I have heard both that it's a piece of cake and that its hell to get across. I can't find too many pictures of the trail though. I can't post URLs until my 4th post on here. I will definately have some video and pictures though when I get back. It really doesn't look that hard to me but I've got to get my wife used to offroading so I thought it would be a nice introduction for her.
Hello and welcome you will love that the FJ can take you camping. You will hate fishing, and hiking, and kayaking, and all the things that mean you arent in your FJ having fun.
Welcome to the group. EpicMale did a nice trip report to Big Bend. I sent many Christmas vacations camping in Big Bend. One of these days I will try and go back. This time I will be able to go place the family wangon couldn't

Re: New here and about to go camping
Welcome Curtis. Ft. Stockton is a cool place; been there many times, lived in west Texas for seven years. Post a picture of your rig in front of Paisano Pete.
