snow

How is the FJ in snow or icy roads with its part-time 4 wheel drive?

Re: snow

Works good for me. We get a lot of blowing snow and ice on the Interstate and snow pack and drifts on the secondary roads that I usually drive. The only thing I didn't like was when it was deep slush in 2 wheel drive and the system kept kicking in and out. I just went to 4 high and everything was fine again.

Re: snow

This last year in Denver we had a LOT of deep snow (in town). With my 4 studded snow tires, the high road clearance, and the occasional/frequent use of 4WD, I really felt the FJ Cruiser was unstoppable.
I like the part-time 4WD because it also seems to have an advantage in mpg (driving range) over the manual, AWD model. I do occasionally miss shifting gears, though.

Re: snow

loose the duncraps then the truck will become unstoppable. Those tires really limit the fjs capability.

Re: snow

Sold the stock tires and added Bridgestones. We had a bunch of snow this year. Used 4-wheel a lot. It worked great in snow and ice crusted crap. Like any 4-wheel, or any vehicle, ice is ice! Better to stay off the road until the salt or gravel hits the road.

Easy to use, once you get the hang of it.

Good Luck!

That's all I have used on my vehicles for years. Work good in everything but deep mud for me.
