Well, after looking at the truck since early 2006 when it first came out - and going through a 2007 H3-X and an Acura RL since then with no satisfaction....I am picking up my 2008 Black Diamond FJ tomorrow!
I really do love the RL as a vehicle - but I drive by the Toyota dealer 2x a day to work and dammit if I just had to finally get it. 2 young kids, 2 Labs and 2 businesses - always has me running all over Long Island and needing more space! I'll be honest, for the early stages, if I go off-road with my FJ it is going to be by accident
But I'm sure once I get comfy with it I'll be drooling for places to take her off road.
I went with the 2008 because of the 'fixes' and enhancements they made - mainly the little things that everyone knows about. Plus - my dealer was very aggressive at the end of the month - and I wound up getting a 2008 for $ 400 over invoice! He was willing to do the 2007's at $ 500 under invoice (plus the rebate on top of that) but he only had Silver left, and I just didn't want that color. Still - from what I see around the forum, I am very pleased with $ 400 over invoice on a 2008.
I got the Black Diamond with the Convenience Package, Upgrade # 2, XM Radio, All Weather Mats, Tow Hitch and Spare Tire Cover. I decided against the roof rack - mainly because a) I will never use it, and b) I drive 70 miles round trip to one of my businesses each day (highway....but with Long Island traffic) and I want to help my gas mileage as best I can.
So - more to follow when I pick her up - but excited to be on board! This forum was very helpful...even for someone who won't be off-road all the time. There is plenty of good information, advice and guidance to be had here, and I really appreciate it. And yes - I'll be doing some Mods for sure....even if they are mainly just the fun, "mainly for the look-of-it" type of Mods.
