We plan to purchase our FJ within the next couple of months. We are glad we found this forum and had the good sense to join and read about the experiences some of you have encountered. We live in Phoenix Arizona and are Costco Executive members. We went to Camelback Toyota a couple of weeks ago where we worked with Kevin and Joseph (the new General Manager). When we were walking around the car and pulling out our driver licenses, Joseph saw our Costco cards and told us about the program; how it works, how we get 3% over invoice and no haggling and asked Kevin (the salesman) to take us on a test drive and bring us directly to him to work out the details of the sale. We told him the scoop: we were interested to test drive one but it would be a few months before we would be buying one. Both Kevin and Joseph have been in touch to thank us for coming down, etc... but no pushiness....thank goodness!
We saw the negative posts associated with Camelback Toyota and we appreciate this input very much. I appreciate everyone who is taking the time to post about sleazy dealerships, because people need to know. While they may be nice to you and treat you like gold while you are in the showroom, the bottom line is they have a business to run. After the sale they won't remember your name and won't care if your car winds up being a lemon. Their job is to sell cars, not make friends. All that we read today will make us more attentive and leery buyers.
While we want an FJ we don't want it so badly that we are lining someone else's pockets and have no intention of being pushed into options or a package we do not want. We also have no problem driving to Avondale or Vegas to get what we want if it means dealing with a sales staff with integrity and ethics.
paid $500 over invoice on the Costco deal wednesday--on one I ordered and came from Japan with only OR and CQ. Out the door $28,374 tax and license, Invoice was $25,634, Sticker says $28,035. The Costco deal says they MUST show you the invoice and you are still eligible for all factory and dealer incentives like cash back and rebates.
