2007 FJ Cruiser scanner Instalation

I have recently purchased a new BTC8 Uniden Bearcat scanner and I would like to know the best place to mount this in the FJ. The dash truly does not have the room and I am hoping you may be able to show me with pictures some cb and scanner installs.

Thanks

Steve

First of all, welcome to the Forum, Steve (nice name ).

You're right, dash space is limited on the FJ for CBs, ham radios, scanners, etc. So, you might want to consider something like a "pop up" mount for your scanner inside of the driver's side glove box (on top of the dash). Several members have installed their CBs, GPS's and ScanGauges in there.

Or perhaps what I did with my CB . . . . mounted either in or on the back of the center console.

Re: 2007 FJ Cruiser scanner Instalation

sloape you have your private messages turned off. so I will post here. i also have various scanners and my bearcat mobile one I have not installed. but if you wish to do the install. the best spot would be in the console between the seats. all you have to do , is pull out the 2 screws under the removable divider. then remove the 4 by 4 short lever, and the little piece of covering under the parking brake. then just pull up the top cover. this will give you access to the underneath side of the area you are working with. you willk need to feed a power source to this area and can get a ground from one of the shifter bolts, that is mounted to the frame. then in the rear, if you decide to put a glass antenna or whatever in the rear. you will need to remove the driver side seat bottom. and pull up the flooring. this will give you access to run the coax to the area if you remove the jack compartment door and just slide the end of your coax along it , it will come out between the rear compartment and the rear seat. then to feed it up into the console area in front. you need to cut off a small piece of coat hanger or stiff wire and tape the end to it and feed it under the flooring into the area where mounting the scanner. you will also need to drill a hole the size of the end of coax termination to feed the space where the scanner is. hope this helps and if any questions while installing give me a shout .

Re: 2007 FJ Cruiser scanner Instalation

Thank you both for your suggestions. I am going to a local cb shop this afternoon and I am sure with the help of you guys I will find the right spot for my scanner. I was trying to find out what is behind the space right above the glove box. If that space in the dash has nothing behind it, I thought about making a custom hole for a scanner and a cb. Do you know what is behind this spot?

Thanks

Steve

The air condition evaporator and cabin air filter not enough space to be able to cut and recess it into the dash. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

Do you know of a place that makes over head consoles for placing these electronics overhead?
