Hello all, I am new to this forum I don't have an FJ cruiser but am looking into buying one soon. I am not sure what is better Auto or manual trans. Thats what is holding up my purchase. I plan to do rock crawling and black diamond trails and have heard that manual is the way to go with this but have also heard the same for auto. Well anyway I just wanted to introduce my self and I look forward to reading all the threads.

Welcome to the forum and you are in the middle of the Coke/Pepsi debat with the auto or the manual. My 2 cents is that the auto is easier in crawling situations. I have had many manual jeeps and they are a blast to drive. The difficult thing to do is get it rolling (forward) while on a hill. In my CJ7 I actually had a hand throttle that I could use when both feet were working onother peddles besides the throttle. THat worked great and I loved wheeling with the manual tranny. But and automatic is easier.

The debate rages on between the auto and manual folks.
I'm an auto guy? Why you ask?
1. The new auto is not like your dad's. The gearing is great and works like a manual.
2. The auto comes with part time 4 wheel drive. To me, this is a plus. a) it uses less gas in 2WD. b) you decide when you want to be in 4WD
3. The manual in FWD is really an AWD in that the vehicle selects which wheels get power just like the automobiles with AWD.
cheers,
dale
