Moab Closures - AYL episode on ABC TV

Moab has become the next hot-spot of environmental worry as environmental groups and off-highway vehicle organizations face off in a land access war with the Bureau of Land Management intrenched firmly in the middle.

As the Comment period continues through November 30th, users can contact their BLM offices, and the Moab Field Officce in particular, to tell them which of the four proposed plans best reflect recreation in the moab area...

If YOU have been to Moab... You know what is at stake here.

If you never have made the trip to Moab... well you may never be able to see and experience what we are talking about! It will be closed

Re: Moab Closures - AYL episode on ABC TV

Why is it that non-motorized and some mechanized users have such a problem sharing?

Seriously, I don't mind sharing the trail with equestrains, hikers, mountain bikers, etc......yet they have a problem with Jeeps and quads.

Is it just a difference in upbringing? I was taught to share my toys. These little sh!ts act like if they can't have it all to themselves and like minded isolationists, then they'll just take their ball and go home (or whine like b!tches until they shut everyone else out). This selfishness is taking over our country....especially in terms of enviro-fascism. It's an attitude of "close everything.....just as long as it doesn't affect my acces or lifestyle".

The feature basically said, cutting 6K miles down to 2100 miles in Moab is no big deal b/c some of the routes "don't go anywhere" or "dead end".....and that a drop of more than 50% shouldn't be cause for concern. THIS IS A PLOY PEOPLE!!!!

They're lying to us to make us feel like there's nothing wrong with closing PUBLIC LANDS! There is.

Established rights of way have legal protection and RMPs and route inventories coupled with "multi-use" strategies are just ways to back door the system and close legitimate, legal routes.

The BLM or NFS representative basically gave the impression that if there was no "scenic" value to the trail or it didn't end in a destination.....it wasn't a valid route. The truth is, some routes exist soley to be routes. The route is THE purpose.

As I've said many times before, I think there will come a time in the not too distant future that western motorized access to public lands will be reduced to nothing and we'll all be herded like the sheep we are into "privatized parks".

Sad to see it come to this. Even sadder to see no one give a sh!t.

End of rant.

I hear you

We were just in Moab and at least they are doing better there to publicly annouce the comment period then they are here in California.

Last weekend on the Rubicon, there was talk of a Alcatraz Island like take over (on the Con). To bad it didn't work out so well for the Native Americans

In the end, enviro-facists want us to kill ourselves to save the planet. Makes a whole lot of sense to me!

Re: Moab Closures - AYL episode on ABC TV

Time for me to decipher the plans and make my comment.

It's the way of political correctness: I will tolerate all unless I disagree with you, then you are an ignorant slob who should be sent to re-education camp.

There are toads who screw it up for the rest of us. I have been in Goblin Valley and seen the ATV tracks off the trail and over the crypto-crust, for no obvious reason. Marks like that tend to brand all of us on wheels as redneck eco-killers. A couple of weeks ago on Bill Moore Trail I had to 'correct' a group of yahoos who were saying, "yeah, we could totally do this!" while evaluating the CLOSED mud bog run and starting to move the barriers.

It is a shame, that a few idiots will brand everyone that like to enjoy off-roading. The Envrionuts never seam to find any common ground, it always has to be closure. Your right Sean, we will all be reduced to going to an off-road park on private land in the future, what a shame.

I have copied and pasted the information to my MySpace blog, credited you for the posting, and added several more of my own .02's to the topic. For some weird reason no one will explain, a few people read it every day. Hopefully a few more will reply to the BLM.

I care I can't think of too much to say, but I'll put this message up. I've given money to Blueribbon, TreadLightly. I'll write letters like I did for El Dorado (actually got to drive through that last week when I was up at Inchworm - but only on the hard top ).

Things go through such strange extremes with these access issues. I love getting way out into the middle of no-where, and the canyonlands, moab area is one of the best areas I've ever visited for that. It's largely WHY I got an offroad vehicle. So I could go see it. Now the trails are being shut down and I can't see it. Which means I'll forget about it. Then I won't care when it's churned up for mining or whatever. Where's the advantage to the environmental protection cause then? What a strange policy. And given that offroad vehicle recreation is such a big part of the Moab area economy, it just seems retarded to start shutting it down.

Excellent observations! However, they are rife with common sense and as such will be dismissed.

Lavender Canyon is why I have a vehicle that will go there.
