I applaud the spirit of this thread and all efforts to educate people about proper trail use and sensitivity to the issues at hand, but like some of the other posters here, I feel there are just so many people out there who are idiots and who feel its their god given right to do what they want in their free country. So far I havent seen where history has proven that a very few smart, nice people can undo the bad work of many, many dumb, mean people. Try telling average Joe on the trail to stop driving off the trail, throwing garbage and ammunition around & burning his styrofoam cooler & lawn chair at the end of the long weekend and you are likely to get assaulted. Normally if I confront someone on these issues, I get a quick 'i can do what a f-in want'. People like this arent gonna take courses to learn to be nice to the environment and they arent gonna listen to me unless i get aggressive beyond my comfort level. Sadly a few jerks do ruin it for the rest of us & thats why trails have to be closed.

anyone going on any trail run with AD4x4, and we have runs most any weekend. is going hear 3 to 5 minutes about tread lightly before the run starts at the drivers meeting
we post threads like this
we have tread lightly's url in our signatures
I think people who don't live in drought prone areas don't really understand... water is a hot commodity in CA. I'm with ya, abophx. We are avid hikers as well. Basically I see offroading as a means to get to a hike/ remote area; I'm not AS much into it for the sake of just doing it.
Anyway, yeah, if that makes us tree huggers, so be it. Why don't y'all call me your trail trash picker upper instead.
We also do trash pickup on our runs, we see a trash pile and we clean up what we can, and note location of large items to turn them in. We feel that is also our duty. It is sad to thin so many guys have no clue as to what they are doing by dumping. And they have no clue as to who is picking up behind them.
You know, I like what is being said here, all the positive nd negative. It is getting the word out. I will continue to post stuff like this.
The guys who complain, well I may reach them, or I may not, but I will try. The issue is just to important not to.
The war we are fighting on these issues is not going to go away. our labor is the biggest weapon we have, it is the one thing we do at a rate of 10 times more hours than the green guys turn in. And the BLM knows that. Our continued efforts are very very important in staving off the political machine the greenies pump out.
The Alpine Tundra might take 100 years to revegitate in an area that's been trampled in one season.
Alpine Tundra only blooms for a few months out of the year.
Having said that, is it too much to ask to have a picture of my daughter in a sound of music type photo? Maybe I'm taking this the wrong way, but I feel like that's what some of you are saying. And maybe it's a catch 22, because it's memories like these that make me AND THEM want to preserve it.
Cliffy, you damn tree hugger!

Of that I have no doubt. Funny though, when you think about you being a Tree Hugger. Exactly what trees are you talking about? You only live a cactus bloom throw away from me, don't you?
