Re: Looks like Tellico is closed for the foreseeable future...

The Forest Service is not meeting its own standards and North Carolina state water quality standards because visible sediment from the OHV trails is reaching the Tellico River and its tributaries in hundreds of locations,” Hilliard said.

This is just sad. I've been through the Tellico River and it runs as clear as tap water. Such BS by someone who clearly has another agenda and money pouring in from a source unknown to the public.

EDIT: The surrounding towns will feel this pinch hard! Murphy was the closest town and people from camp were constantly driving there to re-supply groceries, gas and other supplies.
I wonder if the Chamber of Commerce of Murphy is aware of this.

Re: Looks like Tellico is closed for the foreseeable future...

Heather was the first woman FJ owner I'd ever met. And I met her at Crawford's Camp next to Tellico OHV.

She's truly passionate about unrestricted access to back country trails. It's a sad thing that the FS didn't even give her a listen.

Re: Looks like Tellico is closed for the foreseeable future...

I knew deep down that they would do this, but for some reason I feel slapped across the face about it.

Tellico is such a beautiful area and even more fun to wheel. I know Heather and the rest of the community will not go down without a fight, which she stated on the Pirate forum. They are taking legal action and they need money to fight this on going battle. So, I encourage everyone that cares about this sport to donate any amount that they can, because every little bit helps.

Not surprised, looks like they were just going through the required motions of public comment after they had already made their decision. Just like Sloan Canyon Wilderness here in Southern Nevada - even had local OHVers do a major cleanup under false pretenses before locking us out. So we got thrown under the bus once more. Time to pick ourselves up & try, try again or we will all end up as web wheelers.

They have planned to close on 1 April indefinitely for a while now....hopefully the document will get it opened back up......we can only pray! Sad to say it looks like Uwharrie is next on the list in NC to be shutdown...
