I've been procrastinating doing the LED dome lights because... well, laziness. I've seen them on here in many threads, I've seen them in person with some of the local FJers, I just haven't gotten around to it until now. Here's my version:
I got the DealExtreme 48 LED packages: Available Here They're all made in China, so why not get ones on the cheap. Mine showed up in about a week. They're $7.96 each.
Anyway, I got 4 of them after taking some measurements. 48 x 4 = 192 LED's of goodness (96 LEDs in each dome light). Anyway, super bright!
($7.94 x 4) + free shipping = $31.84 total
Sorry for the pictures, I tried my best. This time of year around here it's never light out unless I'm at work.
What you'll need:
LED lights (2 per dome light)
Soldering Iron (solder, flux, sponge, etc)
Knife/Flathead screwdriver (to take the lens off the dome light)
Take one set and cut the leads off the adapter:
Solder them to your other set to create this hybrid device. Solder the black wire to the same side as the other black wire (same for red). This is known as wiring something in parallel. Check those Chinese factory workers work, one of mine was wired backwards right out of the box:
Don't worry if the metal ends fall off while you're soldering, they're just pushed on. It's actually a good idea to un-solder the wires that came attached on the inside and put them on the outside with your new wires. Just make sure they're in the same place so you can fit it in the light housing.
You can fit two side by side in each dome light for maximum awesome:
This way the entire light is full of light, and it's bright as ****!
Repeat on the other one.
