Smile Very Special Project

NEED REFERRALS FOR BOSTON AREA SHOPS!!!!!! PLEASE POST WITH YOUR INFO AND READ MORE BELOW TO FIND OUT WHY. NEED HELP GUYS!

Well this might not be what you guys were thinking. For some of you that know me I was paralyzed and left in a wheelchair about 2 1/2 years ago. After spending 6 months in the hospital and a year in rehab at another hospital I found my way to a spinal cord recovery center in Carlsbad, CA called Project Walk. This center is ahead of its time and growing quickly. They are expanding to other country's as well as across the country and are in need of some assistance.
Besides being one of their clients, I have had the pleasure of getting to work with these people to help them out. You see in the spinal cord injury (SCI) world not to much stuff exists that can be used or purchased without much modification. As such I took it on to help out with some adapting of equipment and making of equipment when needed for Project Walk that simply does not exist otherwise. Well here is where I and they need help. Project Walk is opening a new center next month in Boston, MA. Because they are going to be on the East Coast I will not be able to continue to make the modifications for them on their equipment like I have been out here in So Cal. I need to find a couple of people or shops that would be willing to help them out. I have been donating my time and resources, material, etc. to them but they will also pay the normal rates for work to be done as well. Modifications needed would be minor fabrication of brackets, making a A-Frame for a hoist and trolley used to lift paitients, welding extra handles on exercise equipment, etc. I will still be continuing to make some of their exercise equipment and other more complicated items out here and shipping them to them but ideally we would like to be able to find someone local to the Boston area to help take this over as well. If you think you might know if a person, shop or business please call me at 760-716-4472 or email me at chris@lucrumind.com. Any of our customers who are in the Boston area and can make a referral would be greatly appreciated. Again this is not some big rich business, this is a place that is getting paralyzed people to walk and works their but off to help others. Check out their website at Project Walk®- Spinal Cord Injury Recovery to learn more about them or contact me again for more info on them as well. This place took me from sick and hardly able to get out of my wheel chair with no use of my body from the chest down to being able to stand and work on my car using one hand to balance!!! They have helped me and many others and in the spirit of off-roading and our mechanical knowledge I would ask all of us to take a minute to think about this and help them. Thanks everyone!!!!

Re: Very Special Project

Hey Lucrum,

I lived in Wilton NH for a while. I know there's a friendly machine shop there. I'm going to call them this week to see if they're interested in helping out. I'm in CO now and have no other contacts in the area. I'll repost tomorrow night if I can get in touch with them and solicit some help for this very worthy cause.

Regards and thanks for what you're doing.

Mike

Re: Very Special Project

Chris;
Thank you for your awesome generosity and kind spirit, and for this inspiring post. It is wonderful that you are helping the Project Walk center in the many ways that you are.

I don't know anyone on the East Coast, and I have lived here in California so far. If on the hand I can help you here in the San Diego area if needed, so do not hesitate to contact me if my time and manpower can assist you on any projects you may have ongoing with Projet Walk. I hope you will take me up seriously on this offer.

Regards,
Kal.

Re: Very Special Project

Awesome post .....

I sometimes forget how lucky I am to have the limited mobility that I do have. I have Spina Bifida and am able to load my wheelchair in the back of my FJ (I am thinking I need a folding chair...lol) and then walk to the drivers seat under my own power. I only had to have a left foot gas pedal installed in my truck and was lucky to have a great service department at my dealership (Patterson Equipment, Woodstock NB) that was almost anxious to do a super job. I had always just drilled holes through the floor of my vehicles and bolted the pedal in....But these guys didn't like the idea of holes in the floor so they welded the five bolts in upside down and then slid the pedal over the exposed threads and bolted it down that way.....25 yrs installing these things and that never occured to me....Always good to have a new perspective now and then.

I hope you find someone that is innovative and open minded and realizes what kind of freedom he is offering to someone that usually only sees limitations...

Love this Forum!!!!!!

Re: Very Special Project

Hey guys thanks for the replys. Komombo thanks to you to. I will take you up on it if I need help out here, btw nice to see you on adv4x4!! I am trying to see if I can find a shop in or around Boston. Will need someone who can stop by for a couple of times to get them going. Once they are up and running they will not require to much work. REMEMBER they are not looking for just charity they will pay the same as any other customer. So even referrals to shops that cant donate would be very helpful
