When deploying in early 07 I realized we had a big lighting problem in our unit. Had I come to the unit earlier (arrived a month and a half before deployment...coming off of recruiting duty in Houston) maybe I could have set the wheels in motion to resolve it prior to leaving Georgia. The stock pair of halogens on our HMMWVs and Bradleys just didn't cut it. Whenever the unit hit IEDs it was at night. On my first emergency leave of the deployment I picked up an Off Road Adventures magazine, a publication by 4 Wheel Parts. I noticed they had a program in which they donate lights to military units. I took the chance and wrote in about our situation. After a few e-mails back and forth with the editor they decided to take us under their wing. By the time I returned from my second emergency leave the lights were coming in.
Here is the first set we installed:
As you can imagine I couldn't wait to get back to my family and hobby wise the FJ. This is what my FJ looked like post deployment.
By a month later:
Traveled 1000 miles to go to my family in Michigan (2k roundtrip). Put on a Metaltech bumper, winch, and 4 Procomp driving lights. Another 2000 miles to go to Chicago and do Route 66 to Amarillo for my son (he's obsessed with Cars the movie) and on to Houston to visit more family. The direct route back to Michigan was about 1300 miles. Roundtrip from Ft Stewart, GA and back was over 5000 miles.

I just happened to be looking for a lightbar when I came across this Lucrum product. Over this last 15 months I've become obsessed with lighting and, now I want this product pretty bad. It'd be a great story to get published in Off Road Adventures

. I proudly display stickers of the manufacturers of any products on my rig. There is already a Team Leader and Platoon Sergeant from my unit ready to go offroading (probably Tellico or Uhwarrie). We want to start a new club for our area. Naturally we'll be offroading day and night. Doesn't seem to bother most soldiers. We'll have a lot more luxuries than in the sandbox anyways.
