where's the info on these hid conversion kits? I missed that one.

I was thinking about going the hid's from checker that are $100 a piece.
You kind find them on sale on Ebay. That's why I ended up going with the real affordable Hella 500 body. Check Ebay sir.

I know I'm late on this one but I've gotta say it. That's one sick lighting system.

Lightbulb Re: Why you deserve a Lucrum LLS

LLS Update 062908:

Since I can't afford paying $600 per light X4 for some really nice HIDs, I decided to convert some Halogen reflectors over to HID. I bought two sets of some Hella 500 driving lights ($120 for all four lights) at the local Walmart and two sets of HID conversion kits. So I've got four bodies and two HID kits ready to play with.

Just an FYI, don't do conversions with the Hella 500s unless you like to do some fab work. I'd find another light fixture body with more depth in the back to accommodate the HID bulb.

I know pictures help but use your imagination for now and I'll put up a photo real soon. The HID conversion kits were from a seller on Ebay and are currently about $68 X2 kits with shipping. I went with an H3 type bulb in the 6000k color range (purest white).

After removing all the Halogen bulbs from the fixtures, I was ready to drop in the HID bulbs and clip them in place. But NO, the first thing I noticed about this set of Hellas was that the clip that holds the Halogen bulb in was no longer a metal wire that used to go around the fixture and then clamp in the middle on the opposite side. Now the clip is a metal arm that gos over the back of the bulb and clips down on the other side. Uh, that won't work with the HID conversion bulbs people, the HID bulbs are much longer then a Halogen one. Long story short I ditched the clips and made up my own wire remedy that works great. I'll post a photo real soon.

After installing the HID bulbs to the Hella Bodies it was time to put the back of the Hellas onto the front lens part. I guess Hella made the the back part of the fixture shallower or something because when I tried to mate the to parts together, the back part of the HID bulb was hitting the back part of the HID bulb housing. Thank God for Uni Bits! I had to do some customizing but I've got a handle on it now. These suckers are so bright.

Even though these Hella 500s required some fabrication to make work, I'm very happy with the light that they can throw. Especially with an HID bulb.

I've decided to have the LLS powder coated silver like my FJ's color. The LLS is gonna look sweet on the white roof.

Re: Why you deserve a Lucrum LLS

very interesting...

I'm thinking of going the conversion kit route as well. I wonder how well cheapie lights would do, perhaps I should buy the conversion kits first, and then try to find the lights to put them into.

There's always the $100 checker auto offroad hid lights as well, but it seems the conversion kit would be nicer in the long run.

Just so you know the Hella 500 depth is 67mm front of lens to the back of the housing, so get something that is deeper then that.

That is the plan Jeshy. So far so good. This is going to be a very cool addition to the LLS that I can't talk about but I'll show you in Ouray.
