Grease Gun Troubleshooting...

So I spent a little extra and got http://www.amazon.com/Lincoln-Industrial-1134-Pistol-Grease/dp/B0002NYDZ8. I put everything together, and guess what...no grease comes out.

Anyone have any suggestions? The instructions that came with it are horrible.

Re: Grease Gun Troubleshooting...

did you push the plunger all the way in and push the bleeder valve at the top?

i pushed the plunger all the way in. i have a screw type of bleeder valve and openned it.

i'm wondering if i don't have the top screwed on tight enough. it looks like i can screw it in some more, but i have it on as tight as it will go.

Re: Grease Gun Troubleshooting...

Eliminating the obvious...you did remove the pull ring cap on the grease tube right? Is there a kink in the bottom of the grease tube that is preventing the piston from sliding into the tube? Is the rubber wiper on the piston pointing upwards thus creating a tight seal as it presses against the grease? I have seen them backwards from the factory. If this is pointing the wrong way it will not allow you to pressurize the grease as it will just fold inwards.

Re: Grease Gun Troubleshooting...

I've never had any consistent luck using the bleeder valve on the working end of a grease gun. what does seem to work most of the time is.

with a marker place a mark on the end that unscrews when it is tight.
count the number of turns it take before it is completely unscrewed.
load up the grease gun.. see if it works.. if a no go on the goo..
hold the gun over a bucket, but be careful and ya won't need it.
Pull the plunger and lock it in the load position,
unscrew the cap until it is loose, hold on to the plunger and release it slowly you should hear the air escaping and hopefully a small amount of grease will follow the air.
Don't pull the plunder back after this happens. now tighten the cap back up fully. can be tricky to accomplish this as both hands are full on with the plunger and the other with the barrel. the bottom edge of a shelf works good for holding the plunger back. now hopefully it will work.

grease guns are always a PITA.

Hope that helps out some.

-----yes be careful with the cap loose.. if it does come all the way off and you do not have a secure grip on the plunger you will be glad you where holding the gun over a bucket. if you do lose the tube of grease into a bucket then keep it clean and is great for packing bearings with.-----
