Question 30,000 Mile Scheduled Maintenance

$459.00
Complete - out of manual, except for:
Oil - provided own synthetic.
No Rotation - just put snows back on.
No air filter - have K&N.

I believe worth every penny...but what have others paid?

Thanks.

This is an important service. I believe that they will be changing your spark plugs at 30K.

What was included in the service? That seem kind of high. I've had 30,000 mile service done on my BMW for almost 1/2 of what you paid...

Re: 30,000 Mile Scheduled Maintenance

Buy a wrench set, socket set with spark plug socket, allens for your axles and transfer cases, and follow the maintenance schedule and your owners manual.

It truley is easy and very cheap to do yourself.

$459? With a big one that hurts.

Of course some people don't like to mess with it. So in that case, go in and do an item by item breakdown with your Service Advisor while you have the Maintenance Schedule in your hand, you'll probably find $150 to $200 goes away......

If you do have them do it, at least get an Allen Wrench for your axles and pull the top plug to verify that you got new oil, that's where they skimp ya. I assume for that outrageous price that they are doing your axles and transfer case........

Re: 30,000 Mile Scheduled Maintenance

Totally agrees with the above. Get a breakdown and do some of the easy stuff yourself. Most of it IS easy stuff.

Here is the complete list...from the maintenance guide...pretty darn extensive. Like I said in original post...everything was done except for the items I listed. Took from 8am to 2pm. I do not have the time nor the tools...so I guess I answered my own question. I was just wondering if all the folks that have done the 30k...had all this done? Now that I think about it...seems pretty reasonable...no?

Replace engine oil and oil filter 1
Rotate tires
Lubricate propeller shaft (4WD only)
Replace cabin air filter
Replace engine air filter
Replace spark plugs 4
Re-torque propeller shaft bolt
Inspect the following:
Automatic transmission fluid
Ball joints and dust covers
Brake lines and hoses
Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs 5
Drive shaft boots (4WD only)
Engine coolant 6
Exhaust pipes and mountings
Front differential oil (4WD only)
Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
Fuel tank cap gasket
Manual transmission oil (4WD only)
Radiator and condenser
Rear differential oil
Steering gear box
Steering linkage and boots
Transfer case oil (4WD only)

Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating Conditions:

Driving While Towing
Replace front differential oil (4WD only)
Replace manual transmission oil (4WD only)
Replace rear differential oil
Replace transfer case oil (4WD only)
Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis
Driving Off-Road, on Dirt Roads or on Dusty Roads
Tighten nuts and bolts on chassis
In Addition to Above, Daily Maintenance When Driving Off-Road Through Deep Sand, Mud or Water
Check ball joints and dust covers
Check brake lines and hoses
Check brake pads/discs
Check differential oil
Check drive shaft boots
Check engine air filter
Check nuts and bolts on chassis
Check steering linkage and boots
Check transfer case oil (4WD models)
Check transmission fluid or oil
Lubricate propeller shaft (4WD models)

Applicable Footnotes:
1) Reset the oil replacement reminder ("MAINT REQD") light after replacing engine oil.
4) Required under the terms of the Emission Control Warranty.
5) Inspect thickness measurement and disc runout.
6) See Maintenance Definitions (Engine Coolant) for details.

Re: 30,000 Mile Scheduled Maintenance

I did the 30k miles service myself two weeks ago and the parts cost less than $100 (Mobile 1 oil, factory oil filter, cabin air filter, 6 NGK spark plugs). The most time-consuming part was replacing the spark plugs since you'd need to remove most of the engine air filter assembly to get to the plugs. I have an AFE Pro Dry S air filter which only requires cleaning. The cost sounds reasonable considering how much labor is involved.

Mine was $576.00 including pulling a couple of nails out of my tires. Glad it's only once a year.

Are they including ALL of the special operating conditions fluids etc on the list above? Are they doing the diffs and transfer case? Propeller shaft torque and grease should be part of a standard Lube, Oil and Filter change. All of those checks take literally 5 minutes. Nuts and bolts on chassis another 10 minutes.
Trans fluid check about 1 1/2 minute.

I ditto what was said above, do it yourself for $100. Please take my advice and don't let them sell you a prepackaged "deal" for all of this stuff, go item by item on the actual fluids and filters that they are actually replacing.

I wished that you lived here, I'd show you how to do it all, free of charge, you pay for the fluids and filters of course.
