Well, after you drive 20 miles on a cold day the 4 on the road would be a lot warmer than the spare anyway. Not that I ever have cold weather here.
I have an '07 so I don't have the TPMS, just guessing here. Since the spare is sitting up high in the sun the difference between the spare and the driver's may not be more than the threshold to set off the dash warning light. (???)

Re: Does removing spare trigger Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS light?

This is all very interesting since I too just removed my spare to replace it with my 35x12.5x18 spare. I did not remove the TPMS sensor in the spare and install it on my new rim...and...YES...my sensor light has been on steadily since I removed the factory spare...hmmm!

I would guess (obviously) that the system works based on the tires proximity to an installed receiver. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the system to extinguish the annoying light on the dash??

Interesting... I rotated my tires the other day and left the spare off. I drove about 15 miles maybe. The light never came on.

Re: Does removing spare trigger Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS light?

I just removed my spare and the light came on INSTANTLY, I mean like while we were pulling it off the truck was on and I saw it come on while a buddy pulled off the spare.

Re: Does removing spare trigger Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS light?

I have an 08 and put on the spare so that I could leave a wheel at a shop to have some scratches taken out. The light came on right away, and the next time I started the FJ it was flashing. Will it turn off when they put the original wheel back on (as either the spare or on the correct wheel)? Or do I need to get a dealer to reset it?

Re: Does removing spare trigger Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS light?

Once your tire with the TPMS is on your car the light will go off. I recently purchased an extra TPMS sensor since I sold all of my original tires. I took the sensor off of 4 of them, but forgot the spare. So now I have it inside my new spare and the light is off. BTW - it cost me $96.00 at the dealer.

Has anyone installed an after-market or '08 TPMS on a 2007 yet?

Tim was right, I've had the spare off twice now, each time the light went out within 20-30 seconds of starting up the FJ after putting it back on. One interesting difference in the two times it came off though -- first time the FJ was off when it was removed, and the light came on right away. Second time it was running when the spare was removed, and the light didn't come on for 2-3 days.

Re: Does removing spare trigger Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS light?

i have an 08. just got a set of 35's including the spare. i was only running 15-20 psi in the spare>>>>because the 35 rubs the oem bumper at recommended psi. my dash tpms light came on. inflated the spare to 35 psi and the light turned off. hope this helps.

Re: Does removing spare trigger Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS light?

yes the light WILL turn on if the spare is removed. My Xrunner had this problem a few times. i think the computer runs a scan or something when first turned on, but that doesn't explain why it took a few days for the light to come on when the spare was removed while the truck was running. hmmm...
it will also illuminate if there is more than 5psi differance in any tire. from what i've been told, you can lower air pressure in all 5 tires, and get no light. I have a buddy who still has an xr, and has aftermarket rims. he just took out all 5 sensors and put them in the glove box. no light. ya, the only tpms referance i have is on my old xr, i have an 07' fj,,,,so no tpms.
