Heads up on brakes

Just wanted to let you know. Last summer before driving down to the Summit the dealer told me I was in need of new pads on the fj at 34000km.
Went to my friend shop and he told me I was good till next spring, so yesterday I take the wheels off the pads still have .225 on them and the new ones have .445.
I just cleaned the pins and the galiper and put the old ones on they are still good for the summer. The brakes on the fj are the easiest one I have ever seen to change thats great.

Just to let you know the truck as 55000km on it know. If they tell you to change the brakes check before they might be changing good pads.

Re: Heads up on brakes

I think that may be good advise for stock fj's but I would guess that extra weight from bumper and winches and the diffenece in vehicle height from a lift will increase break wear dramatically.

Re: Heads up on brakes

I use the Permatex Ultra brake caliper lube. I like to check the caliper slide pins at least every Spring, usually every Fall and Spring. If you live in an area with road salt in winter, this is a must

I used to have a 2000 GMC Sierra. If I didn't service the disk brakes at least every Spring, the rear caliper would stick

Re: Heads up on brakes

FYI, Since the FJ has 4 piston calipers up front there is no sliding involved. When you do your brakes as I have, you'll see... The rears will probably need some attention, but I haven't been into them yet.
