you have to have a special machine to do most flushes and the machine is in the thousands of dollars range....I checked) at 50K miles under regular maintenance.
Sean

I think you mean this machine, made by MotorVac

MotorVac

The better transmission shops have it. The usual price quoted for a fluid exchange is around $120 for regular Dex fluid, about twice that if you want synthetic used. Expensive, yes. Does it buy a lot more life for your transmission? YES

Not sure all dealerships have it. The GM dealerships have it. My local Toyota dealership does *not* have it, and I think you know why. Unless subject to very heavy use, the trans will last the warranty period

Once warranty is up, the trans gives out and their response is "TFB you're SOL. That will be $4000 please"

You can do the fluid exchange yourself with a 5 gal bucket, a piece of hose, upwards of 20 litres of the correct fluid, and almost infinite patience

When I had my pan off, my FJ trans looked fairly clean but the magnet was starting to get fuzzy. When I refilled I put in around 2 litres too much, but no difference in shift feel. The best thing is properly exchange the fluid using the machine

With the machine, assuming the factory fluid level is correct, it will put in exactly what it takes out. So you don't have to worry about fluid level

Re: Automatic Tranny fluid

Bottom line, if you want to flush "all" the old ATF out of your FJC trans and not do it yourself, which way would you guys go, the dealer (which I really wouldn't trust myself) or an independent auto trans shop (which might not know all the ins and outs of this trans)?
