Maint Reqd warning light

Hello. I have a 4wd FJ and I live in the Philippines where the the local Toyota distributor has a policy of not servicing any Toyotas not imported by them. Since the FJ is not a model they carry locally I had to import one and they refuse to service it.

I have to find service elsewhere and before my first oil change the the "MAINT REQD" light lit up. Even after changing oil the light did not go away. I have no idea how to reset this light.

Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Also, would anyone know if I can purchase a service manual for the FJ cruiser?

THANKS,

TONY

Re: Maint Reqd warning light

Thanks for the reply.

I just did what you suggested but no success.

I turned the key to the ON position without starting the engine. I depressed the trip reset button then without letting go I turned the key to the off position. I turned the key to the on position again and waited about 10 to 15 seconds but no success. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Maint Reqd warning light

He is right on to re-set that light. Just refer to the owner's manual and follow it step by step.

I had the light come on during our Christmas vacation, and referred to the manual in regards to that, and it said the light is supposed to function as an oil change reminder, among other things. I re-set it, and it hasn't come back on since.

Make sure you are in the odometer mode, that is not one of the trip modes. Turn the car off, now push in the trip odometer button, and turn the key to on, hold the button down and you will see the lines go away after a few seconds. It is reset at that point.

Re: Maint Reqd warning light

Page 108:

(h) Engine Oil Replacement Reminder Light.

1. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" or "LOCK" position with the Odometer reading (not the trip A or B reading) shown.

2. Turn the Ignition key to "ON" position while holding the trip meter reset knob.

Hold down the knob for at least 5 seconds. The indicator light flashes and the bars displayed disappear gradually. The odometer indicates 000000 and the light goes off.

Check out this thread. It is one of the best on this Forum IMO. You can also do a search for Brock and Becca on here. Post 63 has the files downloaded on his server but you will have to get the RAR extactor to get them.
