Re: Gas Mialage, clean your MAF sensor

QTIP-A-NO-NO!!!!!

The qtip idea is not a good plan. Besides the chance to breaking the VERY delicate wire probe you can also leave behind fibers. The spray on "electrical contact cleaner' works really well. I used that method with my old taco(K&N equipped) whenever the truck started to idle rough....smoothed it right out. Crazy how my old 2.7(running 33's) got the same mileage as my new 4.0......Gutta love technology.

X2! A new MAF is over $100. The CRC spray works well to get the gunk out though.

Story,

The CRC spray comes with a little red tube you attach to the tip of the spray nozzle. I watched a Toyota technician break a MAF sensor on my buddy's Tundra by accidentally poking through one of the sensor wires with the red tube!

Re: Gas Mialage, clean your MAF sensor

Up here in Jolly old Canada i think someone told me that a MAF was well over $300....... And yeah I didn't use the red straw either....But then again i get nervous around electrical......But just dousing the probe with the spray was more than enough. the guy that showed me said to do it over a disposable shop towel and you could see the crud that came off it once the fluid evaporated....The first time i did mine I was amazed at how well the truck worked. Luckily I am in a low dust area and mine is more likely to be the oil from my K&N than anything else.

Re: Gas Mialage, clean your MAF sensor

Okay, so i went by radio shack. and picked up "electronics cleaner" that says it is to be used on circuit boards and the like.
I removed the MAF, sprayed it down, replaced it. I installed my scanguage after i did this. But my scanguage is showing me getting 10 mpg! (city driving)

Did you perform the initial set up of the S-G?

Re: Gas Mialage, clean your MAF sensor

He's talking about the initial setup that you need to perform for the ScanGauge to determine MPG accurately.

Me "willis"? You must be "Bruce"

Anyhow, read the manual... around page 14 if it has not changed.

engine size, gas tank size, speed setup, tank fillup, etc.

Did you do that already?

yup I forgot to ask that in your other post, I just assumed you did the setup. But also make sure you do the adjustment inputs at every fillup.
