Maintenance TechThis forum is for discussion of all aspects of maintenance that should be performed on the FJ Cruiser to keep it operating at maximum efficiency.
TRD Filter is a joke. It's lighter than the stock. Compare the almighty K&N.
You are basing these statements on...? I've never seen anything that relates filter weight to filtering ability. This is exactly why I'm having an independent lab test and compare these filters. Don't worry... K&N will be included in the testing. You may be right.... maybe it is a joke.... I guess we'll see.

It does sort-a feel like a beer can. Much thinner skin, flat (not "O-ring") gasket and weighs next to nothing. I bought one, but after looking at it I won't be buying any more.. I am curious to see how it performs in a real comparison. If I were a betting sort, which I'm not, I would bet it's all fluff with a red TRD stamped on it. Ron

The only problem with this oil filter study is that it's old. The last time it was updated was 8 years ago. There are new filters available since then and I'd bet some have changed as well.
It's a lot of trouble, time, effort, and cost to do one these. I'm sure that's why no one has done another.

Yes.. I don't know of a more recent one. It would be very interesting to see the factory, TRD, M1, Amsoil, K&N, etc.. Tested and written up like that. Ron

yeah, got the TRD filter test results back recently. I'm going to be sending the Mobile 1 filter sample in soon. I haven't figured out how to post the results so it may take a min. to get it up.
