Those are sand ramps. There for when you get stuck in the soft desert sand you put them down under your tires and then drive off. You see them used a lot in the Dakar Rally we didn't get a chance to use them during the Mojave run.

I will see if I can find a video of them in use some were.

Re: MAF on the Mojave Road

Thanks for all the complements on the rig. All credit for how well it functions and looks lies with MAF. I'm a kind of "random number generator" for mods in terms of "I've seen this thing, it'd be cool, right?" and there's a pretty much 50/50 chance that Steve will point out right away that it's a dumb idea (but in a really nice way, "well, you might not want to do that because..." ).

The great thing about working with MAF is that their experience is all in real-world "will it work / function / perform" out on the trail rather than something just looking good or being a product "first." Their deep experience with expedition vehicles of the Land Cruiser family going back all the way is something that really shows through with the focus MAF brings to FJC modifications.

Yeah, the big metal things uptop are the sandladders. If only we could have gotten someone else stuck on the trip

Here are some more photos (also see my "build up" page):

Re: MAF on the Mojave Road

Nice Jeshua!

Thanks for posting that Vid. it was awesome... and I'm sure if you keep playing out there with your Mod'd MAF FJC, you'll get a chance to use the sandladders...
Keep FJ Rockin!!!

Re: MAF on the Mojave Road

It's such a jawdropping FJ I was fortunate to see it in action in person
