Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

Thanks! I think I actually like the auto meter gauge and toggle switch mounted on the left vent panel better.

The link below shows an 80 series aux tank on top and below that is a picture of the type of guage/switch that steve is trying to get from AU. The guage part has to be built to match the sending unit already in the tanks.

At this point, MAF has a low but commercial volume of tanks. They've been working from the start of the customer lists for the last few weeks. So, yeah, these are no longer "test" units, these are finally the commercial units. MAF has just been quiet about it because the list was so long already, they didn't / don't want people to think they have 100's of units in the warehouse ready to go (i.e. they don't want to get inundated with "can I get my tank" phone calls - if you already have an order in play, your tank will come up in the order that the order was received - sound like a voicemail queue don't I --- if you don't have an order already placed, then in that case it's OK to call, but be warned that there will be an extended delay while the backorder queue is worked off). They have a limited supply, but will be getting more as time goes by and the list will get worked off.
Sounds good...I know the CC has been on file with them for a while now so I'm assuming we are on that list somewhere!

I'd only charge you half that amount for the install...and that would come with my unique "I have no idea what I'm doing...and I promise ya that" guarantee! A bargain for what you get...really. I'll just wait for the phone call.
Still waiting by the phone?

Get comfortable

Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

Any updates on how the tanks are performing a few weeks later? Any recommendations (looking back) going into the install with MAF?

Looking at that switch again it looks really small compared to the auto meter gauges. Has anyone seen them in person?

I still like my auxiliary tank.

No, I don't have a photo of the new LED gauge. If it comes out and I don't like it, I'm always free to select another gauge option.

Essentially when the main tank volume drops, I pump a quarter tank (or so) of fuel from the aux tank. Pretty simple.

First fill I had some "clicking off" problems when the aux was filling. BUT, repeated the endeavour a few days later and it filled up smooth as if there there were only one tank. So I think there may have been a problem with the first pump rather than with the tank. Tank transfer etc. has been fine. Wheeled the truck pretty hard this weekend (search the forum for 2N17X) and didn't even so much as touch the tank once.

Next question... Did you change the settings on your ScanGaugeII for your tank size to 38 gal in order to keep it calibrated for MPG and TANK TO EMPTY readings?

Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

Update on my MAF tank install!!
I just filled them both with no problems at all. It filled like I was filling just one tank. I put in 39.29 gal of gas at the local Arco. It clicked off at about 37 gallons pumped, so I tried to round it off and ended up putting 2 more gallons in it. ($154.00) OUCH!! (Yes, that's $3.91 per gallon). It's a good thing that I'm only going to put that much in on trips and excursions. I'm guessing that my MAF tank is Aprox 21 to 22 Gallons. I've never been able to put more then 17 gallons in the main tank before and it was at the same place this time too. I got a total of 775 Miles on the two tanks combined (19.75 MPG). Not bad considering it was just back and fourth to work for two+ weeks. So, so far I'm very happy with my personal results on my new MAF Tank.
