Back on topic:
last week I disconnected the battery to return all lights to normal. Have traveled over 1800 miles with fill ups and fuel transfers without the lights coming on. (Of course, now that I have actually said it, the lights will come on).
Gremlins in the fuel system have left for now.
Must be the phase of the moon!
I filled up my tanks 2 days ago and, based on past experience, fully expected to get a check engine light when I started up the FJ yesterday. NO CHECK LIGHT! Huh?
I figured I just got "lucky' and the light would come on today. Again, NO CHECK LIGHT! Wassup?
"Of course, now that I have actually said it, the lights will come on."

Well i still have a check light once a week... but i found out the my problem was with the charcoal canister need to be replaced since in the beginning of my mod it was sucking too much gas so i need a new canister Would somebody help me with it and is the 4runner's canister the same as the FJ? So if there is a used canister around somebody help would be appreciated, since i am not in the US.

I'm getting one of the aux tanks for not only wheeling, but evacuation as well. I live near New Orleans and from time to time when the hurricanes blow we have to go... often times there are gas stations along the route that are out of gas. When the FJ is rigged with the aux tank I plan on having near 600 mile range and that would put me well out of the area. With the FJ being large enough to carry wife kids dog and luggage, and with the water forging ability, it seems a real natural for a first rate eval-vehicle! With the extra range even better!
I recently installed the aux tank in my FJ....this thread has been really helpful. I did get a "check engine" light today, as well as all my traction control lights going on. Did you guys get the same ATRAC, stability control lights go on when you got the "check engine" light? I pulled the battery cable, and have driven around all day without the lights coming back on.
Just wondering.....

Yes, ALL of the lights come on when the "check" light comes on. It confused me too, when it first happened to me.
I was turning off the lights by disconnecting the battery too, but, it was happening so frequently that I broke down and bought an OBDII reader to clear the "check" light without having to do that. I bought an expensive one, but you can buy a cheap one (w/o a dictionary read out of the codes, but it'll give you the codes and clear the check light) for about $40. If you do get one, you should get the same codes that are already listed in this thread. If you don't, you have a different problem.
If you can't bring the tank into MAF to have it checked out, ask them to send you whatever new seals they are now using to "fix" the tank leaks that are apparently causing the "check" light problems and instructions on how to install them.
Ironically, I haven't had a check light since my last tank fill up following a ski trip. I haven't been driving my FJ very much lately and it's just been sitting in my garage and warehouse. I just started it up again today after 2 weeks in the warehouse and no check lights today either.
I'm hoping that the problem has somehow fixed itself, so that I won't have to drive down to MAF in Simi Valley to have them put the seals in. We'll see . . .

Thanks for your insight...in going back into this thread the one thing I missed was making sure the connection from the sending unit was really tight. I don't know about your install, but I got the external fuel pump, and I'm not stoked with the suggested location, so sometime soon I'm going to drop the tank and re-locate the fuel pump. When I do I'll check the sending unit connection. I'll also give MAF a call re:this. I did get the "new" gasket for the sending unit, though.
I really appreciate your help on this, thanks for your reply.
Well, its been a month since any update. No word from MAF on if the "fix" has held or not. !Cruzer! has been great with keeping us informed but not those running MAF. Thanks Ben.
I guess my respect for MAF has just about fallen off the charts. They have the list of who has their product and thru this thread knows who is having problems. But not one peep from them.
HOW ABOUT AN UPDATE from Steve or the owner. This is really frustrating. The last time Steve-o posted was on Jan. 30.

Ok. So we have been in contact with the guys with which we supplied the modified sender guages. Both of them have not seen their lights come back on since they were fitted. This is obviously good news!
To those who are having the problem and would like to get this sender guage mod done, either call Steve or Freddie and arange a time for your vehicle to be brought in OR for those of you who are out of state or driving range give us a call and we can send a fix-it kit of to you. For those of you who have checked (and re-checked) all your hoses and clamps for leaks i beleive this is the fix that you wil need.
Unfortunatly due to the variables that occur with poeple now fitting their own kits we can not say this is the fix if you have lights on your dash. My recommendation for you is to check all hose fittings and clamps, as well as apply a sealing compond to the sending unit face as you apply it your tank.
We are extremely busy at work right now and I highly doubt Steve and Al will be monitoring this board - I dont even have the time to do it while I'm at work (hence my replys being after hours!). I will do my best to help with any questions directed at MAF.
