Hey, Larry! Looks awesome. Do you know if it would interfere with the tow package...looks to be right around the same spot.
Was at Dave's (Croz's...with the sweet 4Runner) the other day...he was doing a body mount chop for me and showing me the pics of you guys out on the trail. Said it was great meeting you.

For me this makes a lot of sense. I am not fond of gas roped down on my roof if I can avoid it (from a weight too high perspective). This will likely be in my future as well. Really looks good and for my way of thinking puts the weight where it belongs!
I had mine installed by MAF on Tue 04-08 and all is well. I'm doing some small tests for Steve like actual "fill" size of the Aux tank and transfer times alone with Fuel Gauge accuracy, but it takes alittle bit of time to do these tests. (38 gallons takes a while to use up.) I put my 2" autometer gauges in just under the left air duct. I have also put in a switch to the right of the fuel gauge to control it. I also have a TRD Exhaust and the towing package and everything fits fine. Updates later as I do them. Thanks again Steve.
It's a very well built tank.
I put OME heavies on the back a month or so ago in anticipation of this modification. So it rides just the same as it did before - actually a little softer now because I was banging on those heavies before I added the tank and fuel - so no worries there.
I had success with an AirLift system in my Dodge Durango, which allows you to use air to adjust the resistance according to the load, and will probably install one in my FJ if the weight of the auxillary tank and other gear overloads the stock rear coils, so that I can bleed air off and add more air as the amount of gas and weight of the load varies.
The other option is to install a set of adjustable Rancho RS9000XL shocks with remote control, but that would be more expensive and involved than just adding a pair of Airlift airbags in the rear.

No. The auxiliary tank feeds into the main tank so it's not an either/or dual tank system. The old Landcruisers had fuel pumps and carburetors. It's a more difficult proposition with the FJ's fuel injection system and this turned out to be the more practical and workable solution according to MAF. I agree.
Just for the record, its more than a difficult proposition from a technical standpoint - in California (and states that have adopted CA emission standards) it might be illegal. You cannot directly increase the fuel capacity of a vehicle, as it can overload the emissions canisters and devices, allowing more hydrocarbons to escape into the atmosphere. To add additional direct fuel capacity requires EPA certification, a very time consuming and expensive procedure - not worth the expense given the limited marketability of the aux tank for the FJC (Each model year / body style / engine type would require it's own certification in most cases).
So designing a tank that does not directly fuel the vehicle allows the mfgr to bypass emissions certification for the vehicle application, just as if you had a gerry can to pump into your tank...
