OK so with all the ongoing issues with the aux tank, What is your oppinion? As a new FJ owner (still waiting for my ordered 2010 to arrive) I love the idea of a aux tank for the FJ. The LOOK of the man-a-free tank is second to none. But I still sit on the fence. So the BIG question is, IS IT WORTH IT?
The answer is definitely YES!
Yeah, it's a pain to keep getting the check engine light, but there's no replacement for having an extra 19 gallons of gas available at the flip of a switch, especially if you're a LONG way from the next available gas station.
I did a 700 mile run with a group through Death Valley last year with only one gas stop, including an over 400 mile leg from Lone Pine to Lee Flat to Cerro Gordo through Hunter Mountain to Race Tack to Saline Valley via Lippencott Rd to Saline Valley Springs to Eureka Dunes and then to Furnace Creek via Teakettle Junction. Can't do that with a stock tank and several people on the run had to borrow gas from others to complete it.
Probably could have done the roughly 300 mile 2nd leg through Echo Canyon and the Amargosa Desert to Beatty through Titus Canyon to Warm Springs Canyon past the Prospector's Cabin & Stripped Butte through Mengel Pass past Charlie Manson's Cabin through Goler Canyon to Ballarat and Ridgecrest without a fill up but I punked out and topped off in Furance Creek.

Totally agree with Swingshiftworker. The aux tank is my #1 mod with my fridge second. I did a test of my range with the two tanks. My wife and I did the Arizona Strip starting at Mesquite and ending in Fredonia Az. All but 2 miles were off pavement to get a good idea how far I could go. I did pack 10 gallons on the roof one more time cause I wanted to go as far as I could, put the 10 in and THEN head towards a fuel stop. What a trip. I can go 400+ miles off pavement. But at 400 miles I want to be at a service station.
So, all in all it's a very nice product.

I'm still getting the same code (can't remember, but when I looked it up, it was for a "minor" leak). Despite having to screw with deleting the codes; I'd agree that this is one of the best mods on my truck.
You CAN install it yourself, as long as you are comfortable doing electrical work. In my youth, I'd done a couple of frame-up restores on two TR-3s (wish I still had one!), so most of the work was straightforward.
The peace of mind in having almost 40 gallons is huge, and , in my mind, outweighs the PIMA factor of the codes. I've dropped the tank twice to try to fix/troubleshoot where I'm experiencing minor leakage, and have used Make-a-gasket to seal every hose junction, threaded part, and sending unit bit...however, I've yet to find time to call Man-A-Fre to see if they have any insight, so can't lay blame on them...it's a great bit of equipment.
loup407 check your fuel canister maybe the Fuel is getting in to it Or the it's sensor is reading more vapor coming to it and thinking that it is fuel leaking also when you are at the fuel pump don't try to over fill the tank as soon as the pump automatically stops even if the sale price at $29.98 don't continue filling your tank thats wont let the over flown fuel goes to the canister. i my self found out that the fuel was not leaking but the canister had some gas inside it.

Q8_FJ,
Thanks I'll look at the canister and be more careful when I fill...I DO, often, try to completely fill both tanks...so that makes sense. Thanks for the tip!
Now that I am thinking about it, when you sometimes fill up the pump clicks off prematurely. Maybe there is a way fuel is getting into the canister causing the lights. Unless it is really hot maybe it never dries out?

I e-mailed MAF - my auxiliary fuel tank pump failed. Since I was the second rig to have this tank/pump installed, it's something that may be endemic to all of the systems or maybe it's isolated to me. I'm trying to make an appointment to take the truck in and have them fix the problem/install a new pump/whatever. At the same time I will have them look at the dash-light problem that others are also having. I'll let you all know what happens.
