Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

Have the bugs been worked out on this yet? I've been holding of on purchasing until its been corrected.

Also is this something that's easy to install yourself or do you need to go to MAF or equivalent shop to do it?

Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

Any hassles with this tank and DOT and/or inspections?

Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

I'm guessing typically the inspection place doesn't notice in most cases.

Shreesh has a DOT approved one on his rig from a different mfg. But to my knowledge he's the only one that has one which is DOT.

MAF is really the only one that makes the for the mass market.

Dont know about inspections, but the tank has not been DOT approved or Smog-Tested.

It is "for Off-Road use only"

1. Yes we believe we have corrected the issues. We have changed the venting location, and have not had any problems with those tanks we have corrected.

2. It is possible to install the tank yourself, I'd give it about 3 out of 5 on difficulty. You do need some time and a good selection of tools.

I've got one of the 1st tanks - April 2008 -- and still get check engine lights (just got one today). I've been waiting to get the "fix" until the problems were resolved. Looks like they have been now.

I can travel to LA to have the "fix" done at anytime.

Can you move the venting location on my tank to make the lights go away or do you have to give me another tank or do something else? Please advise. PM also sent. Thanks!

Re: FJ Cruiser Auxiliary Fuel Tank --> INSTALLED

FJNewb: FWIW; I installed my tank several months ago. It takes two people and the mechanical difficulty isn't that great. It was more time consuming to install and wire the fuel gauge in the dashboard than to install and plumb the tank. It helps to have some experience with electrical systems so as to install and wire the fuel pump, switch, etc. It took the two of us the better part of a day.
