I haven't seen the struts myself. Apparently they don't cycle anymore (which means I was probably running on the beat-up front springs alone for the whole Bismark canyon night run, the hundred of miles of freeway, and the Cleghorn mess) - no wonder the front end looked all saggy and beat-up. For now, we're just slapping replacement OME front struts on since they're in warrantee (and some new heavy coils). I'm then left with, if I don't drive like crazy, then I'm good... - but I actually do want to go with something much more high-speed, big bump friendly. Still wavering on the LT.
Sounds like you did a number to them.

To bad you aren't coming this weekend you could have went for a ride with Todd to see how his feels. Have a good weekend Mark don't work to hard.

First off, I never work that hard Second, it was driving Todd's setup (and chatting with you) at the cat preserve that got me thinking about suspension again. I'd never seriously thought about LT or even about different shock setups till then. I think that was just after my first Mojave Road with you guys and the first long, fast trail running. Before then, I'd mainly just done fire-road grade stuff or somewhat nastier (but still FJC accessible) rock crawling style stuff (both of which the OME's do great on). But no "Baja style" stuff...

Mark, I've just re-read your build up thread and am very impressed with how you kept it current. The meticulous documentation is very helpful and inspiring. Thanks.

Thanks. I've tried to make it as easily accessible as possible, and I do modify stuff as my thinking changes and as new stuff happens. The one major (and unsolvable) weakness of my build thread compared to many is that since I'm mechanically inept and don't do any of my own mods, I cannot do the step-by-step "how you do it" write-ups, so unfortunately it is always going to be a somewhat superficial thread. My hope is that despite this, the thread does showcase some of what can be done and some of my direct experiences using the stuff (and maybe what mods I wouldn't do and what parts I'd maybe buy differently).

Re: the mir207 machine

i have ome heavy with a 1" spacer. had 285's now on 35" both had same problems. i just did a new post looking for upgrade suggestions.
i've run with a big variety of other machines and owned others but the fj steering just can't handle the abuse the others can. i'm looking for some upgrde suggestions. I would love to make the new tundra components fit to the fj.

I think I'd read some place about AllPro coming out with some new and improved tie rods - that'll probably be my next thing. I've actually broken the CV's but not the steering. I would definitely like to beef up the steering, tho.

Thanks. I look like a dork in that photo

It's been a while since I posted, and I have a few new things on the truck:
- rear Light Racing jounces
- LTB tires on procomp87 wheels (an option, maybe i already had that listed)
- aux fuel tank
- cowboy4x4 light bar

Next up trails:
- Moab June 3-7 (inc. white rim)
- Rubicon mid June with TLCA
