I may have missed it already, but did anyone check the in-tank fuel pump ?
They can become intermittent at first, usually acting up at high speed or heavy load, while idling fine. As the fuel pump worsens, it affects engine performance under almost any driving condition, until it finally fails completely.
Just a thought. You could have a shop hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and watch it while driving...

That sounds a lot like the way it went. At this point it is in the dealership in Vegas - so if that's it, I'm hoping / expecting they'll find it.
Regarding the fuel pressure (and the oil pressure - random thought from another thread), would it be practical to hook up gauges that watch these things permanently (i.e. put extra gauges on the dash)?

I went out to Vegas yesterday. The truck made it about 15 miles and then the problem reoccurred (deja vu on the same stretch of road). Had to return the truck to the dealership and fly back home. They are now replacing the air flow meter.
