What is an ATRAC Hack?

I originally posted this over on YotaTech but enough people were asking about my mods at the Tahuya run yesterday I decided to re-post it here.

First "Clark" is the name of my Avatar, the sinisterly smiling frogman. I've had that Avatar since I stared gaming on line a very long time ago and "Clark" is John Clark from the Tom Clancy novels I was reading at the time.

So, This is Clark;

Mods I've done so far;

BFG TA 285/70R17 (33's) KO

Atrac hack - works great.

Rear Dif breather relocate.

Bandi mount.

Dual battery - using painless solenoid and battery tray but custom switch and wiring.

Light bar add-on to stock roof rack (x4 PIAA 510's)

A pair of PIAA 1500 for the back mounted on the rack

Custom Switch Box for Aux Light Switches and Winch rocker switch

3" OME lift
-Front 885 coilovers, N140S struts
-Rear 895 coils, N141 shocks

Road Armor Front Bumper

WARN Rear Bumper

Replace factory sliders with All-Pro sliders

Factory front skid plate powder coated black

A pair of PIAA 520 fogs in the bumper

Warn 9.5xp

In Cab winch controls

Console 12v socket add-in

12v plugs with 115v socket in back.

Ellis Precision Grab Handles.

Black-out - My goal is to eliminate all silver, inside and out
Done:
Painted front Bezel
Painted Interior Dash trim
Steering wheel
Replaced Exterior Door handles with black Tacoma Door handels

Radios
-FT-857D & FT8900 under passenger seat

Springtail M-PAC rack(s)

Kenwood DNX7100 /w Bluetooth & HD

Re: KD7NAC_07FJ a.k.a. Clark's Mods

I think this is the thread if not one of the first that explains it: Rear Locker + ATRAC

Another good post on ATRAC hack: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

(very) Late 2007 & 2008 and on models have the capability incorporated from the factory - no modification necessary.

there is a good description about ATRAC over on Toyota120.com Understanding & Using ATRAC II+ - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum

Re: KD7NAC_07FJ a.k.a. Clark's Mods

Wayne,

I hope your ankle is healed and your back in the "mod" business! I've read and reread your build up several times over and it's always inspirational!!!

One question. I recall you drilled out your bandi mount 5/8" to accomodate your ham antenna. I presume it was a 2m/440 antenna. Which antenna did you install?

cheers,

dale de w5wi

Re: KD7NAC_07FJ a.k.a. Clark's Mods

Thanks Dale - wait until you see my next project but I'm not telling until after it has been bench tested.

The Bandi mount has a Diamond SO-239 mount with RG58 coax kit and I have 3 different Diamond antennas a 2m, a 140/440 and the only quad band antenna specifically made for the FT8900R the Diamond CR-8900A.

I've had pretty good luck with the Diamond/Yaesu combinations though I do have a number of others I use with the FT-857D on the other bumper SO-239 mount.

the ankle is good, the hardware was removed last Thursday and now I feel like I can really start walking again. The physical terrorist is having her way with me three nights a week and I'm working it the rest of the time. I'll be back in the water before you know it

Body Mount Chop

Many have done or wanted to do the body mount chop to get that extra clearance for bigger tires. I don't really have a tire clearance issue but I can't run chains with the 285/70R17s on.

ACR&O offered up a great deal at a "reasonable" local shop. They are in Auburn and I'm in Everett, wasn't too bad a drive.

So Clark goes under the knife;

The All-Pro plate

Clearance before at full turn (about 1 inch)

After at full turn (about 5 to 6 inches)

And one more thing to check off the list

Those ACR&O guys do great work from looking at the different posts on here where they are involved.

This is one of the cleanest and most professional looking chops I've seen and with the AP Plate the strength is retained.

Very nice indeed.
