Re: sbechtold's Project FJ Cruiser SAS

I guess with the shock height, you just need a
small bubble in the hood on each side... ...

LOL! I figure I'll just cut holes in the hood and leave them open so thieves can cut my battery cable and jack my wheels with locks...

That shock was just bolted to the axle mount and obviously had no weight on it. At ride height the top of the shock is just below the master cylinder cap height. I should have more pics in the next couple of days that show the shocks a little better.

Re: sbechtold's Project FJ Cruiser SAS

Quick Update:

Progress on the shock towers and cross member. The driver side shock tower is in place and the passenger side will be done tomorrow. They are just tacked in place right now. Say good bye to the inner fender!

Cross member mounting tabs tacked in place on the frame link brackets. The cross member will incorporate a skid plate and will connect to the BudBuilt gas tank skid plate. More pics of the cross member once it's installed.

Shock mount started:

Shock mounted at the axle, but no weight on it. It will be much lower when attached to the shock tower:

This is w/o any shock tower. When finished the shock body will be down near the bottom of the frame:

Top of the shock tower.

More progress on the shock tower. This is at ride height:

I should have more pics of the completed shock towers in the next couple of days.

The rear cross member is almost done and ready to be installed. The OEM cross member will more then likely be torched and replaced with a tube cross member. I'm trying to protect the tranny pan and tcases with the tube cross member and skid plate. I also had Bud from BudBuilt make me a custom gas tank skid - I just had him leave the front of the skid plate straight rather then bending it. We are going to tie the gas tank skid into the cross member. I'm really excited about the under belly protection as I know it will get slammed on rocks.
