ARMOR AS ART?
My Avatar was first conceived by Commodore Hopkins of the Continental Navy in 1775. The 1st Navy Jack was originally used as a signal to engage the enemy. It has 13 alternating red and white stripes with an uncoiled rattlesnake emblem and the motto "Don't Tread on Me." Since September 11, 2002, all U.S. Navy ships have been flying the 1st Navy Jack in the global war on terrorism. (I retired from the US Navy as a lieutenant commander so there's a sentamental attachment there)
THUBUB and I were at a box shop in Hemet, California yesterday and while there I purchased a rear differential skid plate. The front armor of the rear differential is adequate but the rear is very thin. So if you screw up your line and need to back up, you're risking the rear differential if you're rock crawling.

When it comes from the box shop (they get them from Mexico) it's not painted so the first thing I had to do was spray two coats of primer on it.

Then I got a little creative with masking tape and some rattle-cans.

And this is how it turned out.

I took it to a welding shop to tack it onto the SCORPION and now it's mounted.
However, because it's a real departure from basic black, I'm just a few shakes of the black can from sending it back to the basic (somewhat boring) color scheme that all four-wheel armor seems to be based on. Keep in mind that my BudBuilt skids are red...
