I would love to see the purchase of millions in com equipment and computers so we can surf the internet, but I don't see that going over too well with the tax paying public.
I dunno......let's ask gascolator how he feels about a tax increase to buy computers so we can surf the internet and look at porn while deployed. I was happy and in shock to just have e-mail available when I was deployed. Could have cared less about the internet. Was always able to look at appropriate sites without any problems. CNN, Fox news, ESPN and what not, this is something that was not available to me the first 10 years I was in and I stilll got by just fine. Wonder how all the Marines before me got by without being able to surf the net while fighting a war??? Maybe I should ask Chesty Puller how he did it.............

Re: Do this for our Troops

Internet was not an option the first 10 years of my service either, neither was my sat phone or morale calls, but they are here now and I have the capability to use the internet on down time.

How did you quickly heat up food before the microwave and MRE heaters?

I wonder how Chesty did it?

Yes I do just fine and did before the Internet became available on deployments, but how is ESPN more appropriate than this forum?

Re: Do this for our Troops

it's not neccessarily about what's appropriate or not, message boards, ebay, sites such as this are blocked mainly to protect US assets/resources against cyber threats (virus and hacker alike). Also the firewall blocks sites acording to how it is listed, ie mature, mature sales ect. that's why crazy as it sounds most gun web sites and karate, MMA and the like are not available on gov't computers.

I know this, that is not what the thread was about!

I was agreeing with you on that one........was just emphasizing the point. There will never be seperate computer networks set up for the pleasure of surfing the net while deployed. I am still amazed at what we currently have and completely happy with it. ESPN is no more or less appropriate than this site. This thread started out about seeing if we could use a different photo page for attached pictures so that those viewing over gov computer assets could view them. Then it turned into something about the Government moral Nazis.

Re: Do this for our Troops

I don't know if anyone has chimed in about this, but if the troops are using MWR computers (service by SPAWAR) they most likely can reach all of those sites.

Some sites that are blocked include those pertaining to lengerie, sex, proxies, gambling...

I have run across many of the photo sharing sites and use a few myself. I'm posting this from a MWR computer...
